CK College of Engineering and Technology (CKCET) is located in the city of Cuddalore, which lies in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was established quite recently, in the year 2002. Earlier it was known as the Jayaram Engineering College. It has been approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and recognized by the UGC (University Grants Commission). The CKCET is affiliated to the Anna University, which is located in Chennai, which is the state capital of Tamil Nadu. It covers a total area of seventeen acres of land.
The college has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council) with a B grade rating. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. To top it all, the CKCET is among the few educational institutions in India to be certified by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
Both UG as well as PG programmes may be pursued here at the CKCET in Cuddalore. At the undergrad level, engineering programmes with the B. Tech degree may be pursued in five areas which are in – Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science and in Electronics & Communication. At the master’s level, an ME may be pursued in the area of Applied Electronics. Besides, there is also an MBA that may be undertaken over here. The entire academics here is run by a cohort of departments. There are departments here for each of the five UG programmes and the two PG ones as well. Besides, there is the Department of Science and Humanities. This one deals with the English language and the fundamental science courses which are for- Physics, Chemistry and for Mathematics.
Research is another key part of the CKCET. Research projects are undertaken by departments on individual basis. Application of developments is given importance here. A newsletter is published by each of the departments to chronicle the research activities undertaken, and the key developments. Students are also engaged in a similar format, so that they develop a hands- on understanding of the various courses. This is why the CKCET has the IPKT (Industrial Practical Knowledge Training) programme installed. Students are sent to the premises of various industrial units to get a first- hand understanding of the ins and outs of the trade. The college also encourages students to gain practical exposure at work. So, it runs a Work Along Programmes, where as the name suggests, students may enlist at some organization where they would work part- time along with their college studies.
The CKCET has always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students of the CKCET have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme). There is also a thriving campus life here for the students. All the student activities here are run by the student cells and clubs. There is a Green eCKo Club too look into environmental protection within campus. There are cells for- Career Guidance, Consumer Citizen, Industry Institute Partnership and as previously mentioned for Internal Quality Assurance. Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There is a sports field where outdoor sports may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The CKCET has done quite well across ranking platforms. It has been given a AAA rating among engineering colleges by the Careers 360 magazine. The placements have likewise remained steady, with top companies recruiting from the student pool. There is a dedicated Placement Cell to look into this. Skills enhancement programmes are held at each year to improve employability. Some of the skills aimed at imparting here include soft skills, English language, personality development, aptitude testing and critical reasoning.
