About Cooch Behar Government Engineering College, Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar Government Engineering College was established in 2016 in the fast-developing township of Cooch Behar, West Bengal. This affiliated college is spread across a sprawling 20-acre campus and has already started attracting aspiring engineers from the region. It offers five specialized B.Tech programs to a heterogeneous enrolment of 1,219 learners. It has a dedicated faculty of 33 members. This ensures a fairly good student-to-teacher ratio so that the pupil gets proper attention and quality education. CGEC is approved by AICTE, proof of quality in technical education at the national level. 

The CGEC knows fully well the need for a properly balanced college life and hence provides top-rated sports facilities so that the students can unwind and at the same time remain fit. The once glorious Cooch Behar Government Engineering College (CGEC) situated at Cooch Behar in West Bengal. This institute bestows the education of quality engineering. With its admission criteria, it tries to select deserving candidates from the pool of applicants. The college receives its recognition from the AICTE, which implies that it follows standards laid down for Technical Education in the country. However, admissions to CGEC are primarily on merit based on two most important entrance examinations, that is Joint Entrance Examination (Main) or JEE Main, and West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE). The entrance gates to the aspiring engineers to enter this glorious institute are these entrance exams. The CGEC accepts the qualifying scores of both the examinations, which gives many chances for deserving candidates to prove themselves.

The JEE Main is supposed to be conducted mainly in January, with the intimation slip for cities on around January 2, 2025. The exam will be taken by an online mode. WBJEE will, on the other hand, probably take place on April 27, 2025, in an offline type. Hence, proper goodwill preparation from candidates is highly recommended in these highly competitive examinations. To be eligible for admission to B.Tech programs in CGEC, a candidate should have completed the 10+2 or equivalent examination consisting of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Other than that, candidates shall also meet the minimum percentage laws as laid down by the West Bengal state government and the college authorities.

Admission Process

The application process for Cooch Behar Government Engineering College has several steps.

1. JEE Main or WBJEE: Candidates need to first appear and qualify for either JEE Main or WBJEE and obtain a valid score.

2. Application Form: After declaration of results of these entrance tests, candidates need to fill online application forms of CGEC through the WBJEEB portal.

3. Document Submission: The applicants are required to upload scanned copies of the documents including:

  • 10th and 12th mark sheets
  • JEE Main/WBJEE score card
  • Domicile certificate (if applicable)
  • Category certificate (for reserved categories)
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Signature

4. Application Fee Payment: Pay the prescribed application fee by prescribed online payment means.

5. Register for Counselling: Register for the centralized counseling process conducted by WBJEEB.

6. Choice Filling: During counseling, candidates will fill in their preferences in order of colleges and courses they want to attend.

7. Seat Allotment: The allotment of seats is based on the rank of the candidate as per orders of preference furnished by candidates.

8. Document Verification: In the event of a candidate receiving a seat in CGEC, he/she shall report to the college for verification.

9. Payment of Fees: Candidates shall, on verification, be required to pay the admission fees to retain their seats.

10. Final Admission: Following completion of the above steps, admission into CGEC lies within the powers of the candidate.

Admission Process Degree Wise 

B.Tech: Specialized in offering B.Tech programs, Cooch Behar Government Engineering College has five into which students are admitted with each capacity of 60 students. The programs offered include:

  1. B.Tech in Civil Engineering
  2. B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering
  3. B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
  4. B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering
  5. B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

Admissions to these areas are determined by JEE Main or WBJEE performance of the candidate. The selection process includes consideration of a candidate's rank from these entrance exams, followed by a centralized counseling process conducted by WBJEEB.

College Infrastructure

CGEC boasts a clean and green campus with well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. The college provides a spacious playground and a well-stocked library with approximately 15,000 books. However, some students have noted that hostel facilities, especially for first and second-year male students, are still under development.

Good college if you want go for higher studies.

College Infrastructure is really good. Our college campus is huge and we have playground boys hostel girls hostel and admin building academic building. There are gardens flower trees in the whole campus area. We Have projectors in every class rooms and free wifi for whole college. But we don't have any Canteen.
