The Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) is located in the city of Greater Noida, in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). Greater Noida is part of the National Capital Region (NCR) surrounding Delhi, and so needless to say, benefits from its prime positioning within a business hub. The GCET was founded back in the year 2000. It was the first institution founded by the now sprawling Galgotias Educational Institutions (GEI). The group operates a full- fledged university, a management & technology college, one for pharmacy and of course this one for engineering. The Galgotias family has been into education for some time now. In addition, the group also runs hotels and publications.
The GCET’s campus is spread over nineteen acres of land right in front of an eight- lane expressway connecting Greater Noida to both Noida and eventually Delhi as well. The Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology is affiliated to the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), located in the state capital of Lucknow. The AKTU was earlier known as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). This affiliation, ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). Further, the GCET has also been accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation). Courses are run, here at this college, at both the UG as well as PG levels.
At the undergrad level, B. Tech programmes are available with nine main specializations. These are in the engineering areas of- Electrical, Information Technology, Civil, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, Electronics & Instrumentation, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. At the master’s level, here students can go for an MBA or MCA. Admissions to the former programme is via the CAT (Common Admission Test) or MAT (Management Aptitude Test) exams, for graduates with minimum fifty percent scores at the UG level. For the B. Tech ones, students are selected on the basis of scores at the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains or UPSEE (Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam) conducted by the AKTU. The UPSEE scores are also considered for the MCA.
The entire academics at the Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology is run by a cohort of fifteen departments, each with expertise in its own area. Nine of these departments are for the areas in which the B. Tech degree is awarded in. Three more are at the master’s level. They are known for- Business Administration, Management Studies and for Computer Applications. Two more are for the Applied Sciences and for Humanities. The former deals with the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics, while the latter is for the English language courses. Uniquely named, the thirteenth one is called the First Year. It deals with the foundation courses students are supposed to take up during their first year in college.
Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Galgotias Centre for Technical Innovation and Incubation (GCTII) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models. Key focus is paid here towards the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) segment. It also deals with some of the research initiatives. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is served at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located just outside campus.
