Government College For Girls, Ludhiana was established under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi in 1943. The college is a government institution situated in Ludhiana. It is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh. The college offers education to students in various diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The courses consist of various degree programmes in the disciplines of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Commerce, Sciences, Computer Applications and Management & Business Administration.
GCG Ludhiana courses are B.A., B.Sc, B.Voc, B.Com, B.B.A., B.C.A., M.A., M.Com, M.Sc and Post Graduate Diplomas. The courses are provided in two modes i.e. government-aided and self-financed. GCG Ludhiana's fee for the first year of the BA course is Rs. 8,336 whereas for the BBA Self-Finance course, the first-year fee is Rs. 25,991. Before applying for admission, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria. GCG Ludhiana admissions are granted based on the merit of the previous qualifying examination of the candidates through the Punjab Government’s centralised admission portal. The admission process involves filling up the application form, displaying of merit list, counselling, seat allotment and fee payment.
For students graduating from the college, the college has a Career Guidance and Placement Cell (CGPC) to provide employment opportunities. The college’s campus size is about 45 acres and the college infrastructure consists of its academic blocks, administrative buildings, laboratories, library, hostels, and more. The other GCG Ludhiana facilities are hostels for students, canteens, sports facilities, IT Infrastructure, a gymnasium, a medical clinic and more. NSS and NCC wings are also established in the college for community service and other functions.

The infrastructure of the college is quite old and needs renovation. The lecture halls are equipped with boards. The labs are not in good condition. The campus is spread over a large area. There are many playgrounds in the campus.
