Government Engineering College, Modasa was established in the year 1984 under the Directorate of Technical Education, Gujarat State, Gandhinagar in the North Gujarat region. GEC Modasa is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad. From 1984 to 2007, the college was affiliated with Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU), Patan. Government Engineering College, Modasa is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. GEC Modasa is spread over an area of 112 acres of land. 

At present, the college offers seven undergraduate and two postgraduate programmes in engineering, computer application and IT streams. Each department is equipped with well-equipped laboratories, computer centres, and highly qualified staff. GEC Modasa has various departments such as Applied Mechanics Department, Automobile Department, Civil Department, Computer Engineering Department, Electrical Department, Electronics and Communication Department, Information Technology Department, Mechanical Department, and Science and Humanities Department.

TnG Club: The goal of this club is to use toys and activities to encourage young people to be creative and innovative. The college plans to make imaginative toys and games by the young minds of the students and provide them with a forum to explore their creativity and inventive thinking through this TnG club.

Technik Club: Government Engineering College, Modasa has a technical club known as Technik. Computer Engineering and Information Technology Department students administer and run the group. Its goal is to teach students about applications and help them build soft skills such as leadership.

Bridge Club: BRIDGE is a technical club at GEC Modasa which is part of the Civil Engineering Department. Students studying Civil Engineering oversee and administrate the club. Government Engineering College, Modasa Admissions

Government Engineering College, Modasa offers seven UG courses and two PG courses in engineering. To get admission to B.E programmes, candidates need to appear for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET), which is conducted by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) or JEE Main. Candidates who qualify GUJCET will need to attend counselling for further admission process. For M.E programmes, candidates have to appear for the entrance exam- PGCET. Candidates with a valid GATE score are offered direct admission to the M.E. programme. Later, candidates must also attend the counselling session.
