36 MonthsBachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Marine Engineering Lateral Entry is a three-year full-time undergraduate program offered by the Indian Maritime University, Chennai and approved by D. G.Shipping, Govt. of India.
All Diploma students can join the second year of lateral entry B.Tech Marine Engineering course. This 3-year residential course leads to Marine Engineering Officer- Class IV Certificate of Competency, awarded by the Ministry of Shipping (Government of India), after six months of sea service after their course.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification:
1st Year Engg. (Mechanical/Electrical): 60% avg.
Diploma (Mech/Marine/Elec): 55% in final year
Alternate Training Scheme: 1st year completed (Not for MERI)
Diploma in Shipbuilding: 4-year course, 55% in final year
Other Diplomas: Approved 3-year diploma in specified Mech/Electrical/ECE streams – 55% in final year
English: Min 50% in 10th/12th/Degree/Diploma
Age: 17 to 25 (General), up to 28–32 for reserved categories (as on 01.08.2024)
Medical:
Vision: 6/12 or 6/9 & 6/18 unaided
No color blindness, DG Shipping medical fitness
Status: Unmarried
