HIMT College Chennai Admission Process

Hindustan‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT) Kalpakkam admission is open for the diploma and undergraduate (UG) courses in the Engineering and Architecture and Sciences streams. HIMT admissions are open for Diploma, B.Sc., and B.E./B.Tech courses.

HIMT admission is for the candidates who scored the best in IMU CET. Along with that, it qualifies for the lowest entry. Toppers are based on their overall score in the qualifying exam. After that, the shortlisted candidates for HIMT admissions will be called for the next round.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training admission will take place after the verification of documents and the payment of the course fee. HIMT Admissions 2026 for UG Courses

Hindustan‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT) offers two full-time undergraduate degree programmes, namely Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech). The duration of the B.Sc. course is 3 years and that of the B.Tech. is 4 ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌years.

HIMT UG Courses, Eligibility Criteria

B.Sc Nautical Science	To qualify, you must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Math, and English, maintaining at least a 60% aggregate in PCM. Additionally, you need a minimum of 50% in English at both the 10th- and 12th-grade levels.
B.Tech Marine Engineering
B.Tech Lateral Entry	Candidates should have done their 3-year Engineering diploma in a relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks in total aggregate from a recognised institution.

HIMT Admission Process 2026 for B.Sc and B.Tech

Candidates‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ have to qualify the necessary eligibility criteria
Go to the HIMT official website to complete the online application form
Candidates must have taken the IMU CET exam and have a valid scorecard.
The admission list of HIMT will be based only on the basis of the performance of the candidates in their last academic records and the IMU CET entrance exam.
Selected candidates will be required to produce all the necessary documents along with the payment of the HIMT course ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌fee.

1: What is the eligibility for the Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course?

GME programme is designed for graduate engineers. Candidates should have a B.E./B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture with not less than 50% of the marks in the final year and must have scored at least 50% of the marks in English at 10th, 12th, or degree ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌level.

2: What‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ is the approximate annual course fee for B.Tech. Marine Engineering?

The complete tuition fee for the B.Tech. Marine Engineering will be around Rs 13.26 Lakhs for the 4 years of the course (excluding IMU fees and caution deposit). The yearly course fee is frequently close to Rs 3,25,000 to Rs 3,95,000 per year, and accommodation and food are charged separately.

3: Does HIMT have an independent admission test?

For some specially designed courses or programmes like General Purpose (GP) Rating or Graduate Marine Engineering (GME), HIMT may conduct its own online written exam followed by an interview, which is different from the IMU-CET.

4: Are there additional admission criteria after the IMU-CET exam?

Yes. After clearing the IMU-CET, candidates have to go through a tough selection process comprising a Panel Interview, a Psychometric Test, and a thorough Medical Examination by a doctor approved by the DGS.

I have pursued GME course under IMEC GME Indian cadet program, I had completed my Btech Mechanical course and joined this course, I wanted to start my merchant Navy career at sea, that's the reason why I chose this course, the syllabus is vast but our faculties teach the concepts in a simplified way so very easy to understand and learn. The training at HIMT makes you aquire all the skills required for the shipboard job.
