Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences is an autonomous institution that is NMC(National Medical Commission) approved and was established by the Government of Karnataka in 2007. RIMS Raichur is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.  The courses at RIMS Raichur are offered at undergraduate and postgraduate courses in stream of Medical and Allied Sciences.  

RIMS courses include MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) at the undergraduate level and MD(Doctor of Medicine), and MS(Master of Surgery) at the postgraduate level. The RIMS admission procedure includes appearing and passing an entrance examination followed by seat allocation through online counselling. NEET for undergraduate-level and NEET PG for postgraduate-level courses are the required RIMS entrance examinations for admission. The college provides a total of 150 seats for MBBS. 

 RIMS Campus has its own hospital having more than 500 beds capacity and students get the chance to practise there during the final year. Every RIMS faculty member is a highly qualified and experienced doctor, actively practising medicine at this hospital as well. A 1200 square metre library, common rooms, laboratories, hostels, and auditorium are some of the RIMS facilities provided to the students.

The college is just 2 km from the district headquarters which makes it easy for candidates to commute there by bus or train. The railway station of the city is at a distance of 5km from the RIMS campus. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad is the nearest international airport to the college at a distance of 188 km.
