Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), a four-and- a-half- year program is one of the most sought after professional degrees in India. The degree is followed by a mandatory rotational residential internship of six months to one year. Candidates pursuing MBBS or General Medicine and Surgery will learn basic science, pre-clinical, clinical and paraclinical subjects. Candidates who have completed their MBBS from a medical college recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI) are eligible for this course.
Candidates who have completed their MBBS along with 1 year of internship are eligible for this course.
Candidates who have passed their Bachelor’s degree with a percentile 50% are eligible for this course (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates). The percentage may vary from one college to another.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)- National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the main medical entrance examination which is accepted in mainly all the medical colleges in India. It was previously known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT).
Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) – This entrance exam is conducted by the National Board of Education. Students who have pursued their medical education outside India and now wish to practice medicine here, need to qualify this examination. The duration of the exam is 5 hours, and it is conducted in English Language, twice a year.
AIIMS PG Entrance Exam: - This entrance exam is conducted by AIIMS Delhi. The exam is conducted to select students for admission into the Post Graduate courses offered at AIIMS. It is a national level exam which is conducted twice a year and the duration of the exam is 3 hours.
General Medicine and Surgery graduates are very highly concentrated in the healthcare sector. The Job opportunities for medical graduates are in both government and private sectors. The General Medicine and Surgery course offers MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree in many reputed colleges. MBBS is a full-time course which has a duration of about 5 and a half years which includes 4 and a half years of on-campus studies and one year of internship.
