What is Instrumentation and Control Engineering

Instrumentation and Control Engineering is a specialization in the field of instrumentation, control, design, and operations of automated equipment or machines used in industries.

An instrumentation and control engineering graduate is responsible for improving the productivity, stability, reliability and optimization of instruments in any industry.

They also make sure that the systems and processes of the industry operate effectively and safely. Students with this Instrumentation and Control Engineering degree have good opportunities in the electrical and mechanical sector.

Only a few choose this branch of Instrumentation and Control Engineering without knowing the golden opportunities it offers after completion. As a result, only a few graduates come out to the industry.

They are selected with no objection because the requirement is more, and the graduates are comparatively less. Both governmental and private industries hire instrumentation and control engineering graduates.

Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Instrumentation and Control Engineering

For Undergraduates

  • Minimum eligibility for pursuing Instrumentation and Control Engineering is 65% marks in 10 +2 classes in the relevant stream.
  • The selection process differs between various institutions. Some universities or colleges offer admissions based on +2 scores and others through separate entrance exams.

  • The above-mentioned eligibility criteria is common among most of the colleges across the country.

Entrance Exam for Instrumentation and Control Engineering

JEE Main: Joint Entrance Examination Main is for admission to national institutes of technology and other colleges which are called as centrally funded technical institutes.  The registration is online, and the exam has two phases. The first exam takes place during April and second takes place by the first week of September. Qualified candidates get admission in national institutes.

CET: Common Entrance Test is conducted for admission of students in medical, dental and engineering colleges of various states of India. The exam takes place twice in a year. The mode of the exam is online. Candidates who clear CET get admissions to best engineering colleges across India.

WBJEE: West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam is a state-level exam conducted only once in a year.  45% marks with computer science as mainstream in +2 examinations is the eligibility for candidates to appear for WBJEE. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The exam is conducted offline.

UPSEE: Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination is conducted for admission into 811 reputed colleges. The duration for the engineering UPSEE exam is 3 hours. The exam usually takes place in September.

Post Graduate Entrance Exam

GATE: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted nationally to postgraduate courses in engineering at IISc and IITs. Usually, it is conducted in February.
