Calicut University (CU) was established in 1968. University of Calicut is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ grade. As per the NIRF ranking 2021 for the university category, the varsity has been ranked 60th whereas its NIRF ranking for the year 2020 in the same category was 54. The university has been ranked 95th in the overall category in the NIRF rankings of 2021. Calicut University Kerala has 34 postgraduate and research departments and 3 centres. At present, 392 colleges are affiliated to it. The varsity campus is spread over an area of 547 acres. Calicut University aims to nurture academic excellence and it promotes productive research.

The University of Calicut offers a total of 37 programmes at postgraduate level in branches like humanities, language, engineering etc. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) course offered by the university is approved by AICTE. Admission to Calicut University is offered based on the score obtained by candidates in the entrance exam conducted by the university and the merit of the last qualifying exam. For admission to MTech programme students need to sit for the GATE entrance exam. The university has collaborated with various institutions to provide practical experience and exposure to the students. The University of Calicut also offers numerous national-level scholarships and fellowships to its students. For placement and internship drives the university has a placement cell.  

The gigantic campus of Calicut University has hostels, library, cafeteria, lab etc. Each department of the university has its own laboratories. The university is located at Tirur, Calicut Road, Thenhipalam, Kerala. Kozhikode International Airport is the nearest airport with a distance of 9.4 km. The nearest railway station is Vallikunnu Railway Station. It is located 9.5 km from the campus. Calicut University Bus Stop is just 400 meters away from the campus.

The campus offers facilities to its students which help them in finishing their studies without any hindrance and discomfort. Calicut University facilities include computer labs, wifi, bank, ATM, cafeteria, library, hostels etc. The university library- C.H.Mohammed Koya Library was established in 1971. It has lakhs of books and thousands of e-journals for students. CU also has accommodation provision for outstation students. Calicut University hostel facilities consist of separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostel rooms are spacious and students are provided with all the basic amenities at hostels. Each department of the university has its own laboratories. The university also has an auditorium where seminars and workshops are held.

Apart from academic facilities, University of Calicut facilities also comprises sports and extracurricular facilities. The sports facilities of the university can be used by students during their break from academics and plays an important role in refreshing their minds. CU Sports facilities contain a field used for multiple sports like football, cricket etc. The varsity also has a gym with the latest equipment, parking space, health care centre, a well maintained swimming pool and transportation facilities.

Calicut University Courses

The varsity offers plenty of courses to students. However, all the courses offered by CU are at postgraduate level only. Calicut University courses are offered in management, science, technology, humanities & social sciences and many more branches. Calicut University Admissions

To centralise and streamline the admission process, University of Calicut established the Directorate of Admission (DoA) in 2014. All the students willing to take admission in courses offered by the varsity need to register on the University of Calicut admission portal. As per Calicut University admission criteria, admission to various courses is given on the basis of entrance exam score and merit of the last qualifying examination. For admission in degrees like MEd and LLM, students' marks in the last qualifying examination is considered, whereas for degrees like MA, MCom, M.Lib.I.Sc, MAJMC, MPhil, candidates are required to sit for University of Calicut entrance exam. For professional and technical courses- MBA and MTech, candidates score in CUMAT and GATE exams are accepted for admission respectively..

• Register for the PG Centralised Admission Process (PGCAP).

• Participate in the Calicut University counselling.

• Based on candidates' marks in the last qualifying examination seats are allotted to the candidates. 

• Visit campus to complete the Calicut University admission procedure. 

• The final step is document submission and fees payment.

• Firstly register for the PG Centralised Admission Process (PGCAP).

• Appear for the university entrance examination for PG courses.

• Next, participate in the counselling conducted by the university.

• Based on aspirants marks in the entrance examination and academic performance, seats are allotted to them. 

• Go to the university campus, submit documents and deposit course fees.

Calicut University Scholarships

To financially support the students belonging to the economically weaker section and reward the students with prolific academic performance, Calicut University offers various scholarships and rewards. The university sets a minimum eligibility criteria which must be met by students in order to avail the University of Calicut Scholarships. The eligibility criteria is different for every scholarship. To start the Calicut University scholarship process, candidates need to visit the national scholarship portal and register themselves. Students eligible for the scholarships receive rewards in the form of scholarship amounts. 

Calicut University Scholarships Process

• Step 1: Visit the National Scholarship Portal and fill the application form.

• Step 2: Submit registration form print out along with necessary documents to the university department office.

• Step 3: The department will verify the documents submitted.

• Step 4: Students will receive a text confirming initiation of the scholarship process.

• Step 5: In case of any error in the application students can make corrections by visiting the department office.

• Step 6: The final decision is taken by the concerned authorities (UGC, MHRD etc.)

The university placement cell is responsible for maintaining the link between companies and students.
