The college was established in 2004. CIT, Howrah is a private college affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Kolkata. The college offers courses at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level. CIT, Howrah Diploma courses offered are Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Admissions to diploma programs are open for candidates who have passed class 12th from a recognised board with 35% aggregate marks. CIT, Howrah UG courses include B.Tech Civil Engineering, B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech Chemical Engineering, B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, B.Tech Electrical Engineering. Calcutta Institute of Technology, Howrah UG admissions are offered to students who have cleared class 12th from a recognised board and also should have a valid score in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination(WBJEE), JEE Main conducted by NTA. The college also offers MCA and M.Tech as postgraduate courses. Admissions to PG courses are offered to candidates by the entrance examination conducted by the state or WBUT.
