College of Horticulture, Thrissur Admission Process

The College of Horticulture, Thrissur, adopted its birthright as a constituent college of Kerala Agricultural University. This prestigious college currently offers a series of courses in agricultural or horticultural sciences. The College of Horticulture has a method of admission that is done with a view to attracting talented students, with a passion for agriculture and horticulture. In order to gain admission at undergraduate level, a student must complete 10+2 in the science stream. The major program available at the undergraduate level is B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons). 

Admission to postgraduate and doctoral courses is done according to the performance of the applicant in their previous degrees and entrance examinations of the university or other recognized authorities. The academic year starts off commonly in August-September, and the admission process commences a few months earlier. Application Process

The application process for the College of Horticulture, Thrissur, varies depending on the program level:

For B.Sc Agriculture (Hons):

  1. Complete the 10 +2 in the science stream with required subjects and minimum marks.
  2. Apply through Kerala Agricultural University's official website or as per process prescribed by the state's agricultural university. 
  3. Appear in any entrance examinations that may be required.
  4. Wait for the merit list or counseling process.

For M.Sc and Ph.D Programs:

  1. Hold a relevant bachelor's degree (for M.Sc) or master's degree (for Ph.D) from any recognized university. 
  2. Apply during the time of admission at Kerala Agricultural University's official website.
  3. Pay the entry fee as mentioned
  4. Appear for entrance examinations and/or interviews as specified by the university.
  5. If shortlisted, attend counseling and complete the admission process, including document verification and fee payment. 

Generally required documents for admission include:

  • Application form duly filled in The form has to be dully filled by the student.
  • Passport size photographs
  • Mark sheets and certificates of qualifying examinations: 10th, 12th, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate as applicable

Degree-wise Admission Process

B.Sc Agriculture (Hons): This is the core undergraduate program that is provided by the College of Horticulture, Thrissur. This program will be offered on the basis of an entrance examination, if required by the university, and the candidate's marks in the 10+2 science stream. It is a 4-year programme that has a total strength of 2,430 students enrolled.

M.Sc Programs: The college has 20 postgraduate programs on various agri-specializations. Some of the important M.Sc programs are:

Admission to these programs is usually held on the basis of performance at the bachelor level and any entrance held by the university. Most M.Sc programs are for 2 years.

Ph.D Programs: The College of Horticulture, Thrissur, conducts 15 doctoral programs in different agricultural sciences, as given below:

  3. Ph.D Plant Breeding and Genetics
  4. Ph.D Plant Pathology
  5. Ph.D Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (4 seats)

  8. Ph.D Vegetable Science

Admission to Ph.D programs will depend on the candidate's performance in their master's degree and written test and/or interview conducted by the university.
