Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) is a graduate degree course in the Ayurvedic system. This degree is awarded after the completion of 5 years and 6 month degree programme containing the 4 and 1/2 year academic session and one year internship programme. 

BAMS is an Ayurveda traditional healing art based undergraduate medical programme in India. 

Ayurveda is one of the ancient medical systems of the world. It traces its roots to the Vedic period. It is a trustful medical system in order to cure, prevent, and rejuvenate. The Ayurvedic system of medical care is based on the concept where the natural healing capacity of the body is being enhanced by the Ayurvedic therapy.

TheAyurvedic treatment includes the reducing symptoms, eliminating impurities, reducing worry, increasing resistance of disease and increasing harmony of patient’s life. 

BAMS syllabus and curriculum is uniform across the country and the admission to BAMS courses is done in only Ayurvedic colleges affiliated to the respective universities, which are permitted by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).

Even the World Health Organisation has provided a worldwide forum for promoting traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda. Therefore, the Bachelor of AyurvedicMedicine and Surgery (BAMS) as a course has opened up many promising opportunities for students.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The basic requirement for the eligibility to get the admission to BAMS programme is qualifying the 10+2 examination with science stream. The candidate must have the physics, chemistry and biology in 12th class.
  • The selection of the candidate is based on the final merit as the sum of the total numbers obtained in the qualifying examination as 12th and the number scored in the entrance examination

Admission Details

  • In India NEET is compulsory for admission into many medical courses including the BAMS course.
  • National eligibility cum entrance Test (NEET) is the basis for the selection of the student in the BAMS course.
  • The centralised counselling held after the NEET Exam for the admission of the NEET qualified student in the various courses of the medical science according to their performance in the entrance exam.
