Engineering with the "Kem Cho" crowd

Batch of 2019 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
When you enter the Somaiya gate, a large and beautiful campus awaits you. The Somaiya Campus is one of the largest in Mumbai, which is quite a luxury. There are two huge and airy buildings for engineering which are complete with good laboratories and a big library. The college offers good internships to the students during the vacations along with great placements. There are two hostels in the campus with good mess facilities. This autonomous college having a reservation for Gujarati minority has an enthusiastic and friendly "Kem Cho" crowd. The energy of the students is quite visible in the technical fest of the college Abhiyantriki, where ISRO had an exhibition last year, the cultural fest - Symphony and the National level sports fest- Skream. Along with all the cultural activities, the college has excellent sports facilities as well. The Athletic track, basketball court, tennis court, football ground, indoor badminton court, volleyball court are some of the facilities available. The academic part of the college is excellent, with highly qualified professors and helpful lab attendants. The college houses many Mega projects like Robocon, Baja SAE and Formula Student where the students bring laurels to the college.

The infrastructure of the college is very good. We have well-equipped laboratories to conduct practicals. It's just that some machines are way old and need replacement. Some practical exposure on the subject taught will be beneficial for the students as theoretical life is a bit different from practical life. The people in my college are very friendly and helpful, they are very sharp minded which makes you enjoy their company. Placement for the Mechanical branch is a bit old school. The college needs to invite more Core Companies to provide satisfactory jobs to Mechanical Engineers. The mess food in the college is very hygienic and tasty and the facilities provided are good. The professors have good knowledge about the subject, they just need to learn to deliver that knowledge to the students properly.

Batch of 2014 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
I've always wanted to do engineering as a kid. Somaiya was a starting point for me where I could learn all I needed. In the second year, i co-founded the aeromodelling team. In the third year, we won 3rd prize in IT Kanpur national level competition. I am still in touch with the college and I'm happy to see a steady growth every year.

Batch of 2013 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
Being an autonomous institution, Somaiya will now be able to design syllabus which is beneficial for the students in the real world. The faculty here is experienced and very supportive. The Orion team participates in international competitions which very few colleges is India do.
