Medical College Kolkata was established on 28th January, 1835. The institute started its first batch on medicine and surgery after the students cleared the exam on 30th October, 1838. There are several buildings constructed inside the same campus of the Medical College, out of which Medical College and Hospital (MCH) is the oldest one. There are several other buildings which came into existence later namely Eden Hospital (1881–82), Ezra Hospital (1887), Shayma CharanLaha Eye Hospital (1891), Prince of Wales Surgical Block in 1911, Sir John Anderson casualty block, David Hare block etc. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes on several disciplines including M.B.B.S, D.M, M.Ch, M.D, M.S etc.
Medical College Kolkata is located in College Square, Kolkata, West Bengal. The nearest airport to the institute is the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport which is located about 14 kms away from the institute. Students can take a cab or taxi from the airport and reach the campus in approximately 45 mins. The nearest railway stations are Howrah Junction and Sealdah Railway Station from the institute which is located at a distance of 3.1 km and 2 km respectively. Students can take an auto from the station and reach the campus in about 15-20 mins. Students taking a bus can get down at College Street Bus Stand and walk to the institute campus.
