B.Sc. Biotechnology is a three year honours course and is concerned with the modification of living beings through application of technology to produce the better breed of plants, animals and human beings. It is immersed as an area of activity having a potential impact on virtually all domains of human welfare ranging from food processing and boosting of agriculture production to production of newer and effective drugs. Biotechnology can be pursued by those having a good knowledge of Biology, chemistry & physics. The course comprises of papers on cell biology, molecular biology, immunology recombinant DNA technology and genomics, plant biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, genetics and plant breeding etc. The course offers on-the-job training and project work to make the students skilled biotechnologists. The course has been developed to meet the growing demand for trained manpower for meaningful biotechnology activity in the country and expose the students to existing development in the area of genetic engineering and biotechnology in industry, agriculture and medicine or self employment and entrepreneurship programmes related to biotechnology. Biotechnologists are required in job sectors like medicine, pharmaceutical, food processing industry, agriculture, forensic science, quality control laboratories etc.
