Best Faculty..they will help to migrate to a Real Life Mgr

Posted on 24 May' 17 by Biswarup Ghosh
Batch of Jan. 1, 1995 | MBA
I have the privilege of being the First Batch Student of VGSOM. I will always vouch for excellent faculty & infrastructure. After passing out from VGSOM, I had worked at Senior Management levels with large multinational companies. I strongly recommend MBA aspirants to select this institute as ROI is very good! I could see great placements of last year students. VGSOM had achieved 100% placement during this year which is significant mile stone for a management institute. I had specialized with Marketing. They have very good faculty for Finance, Operations, Production. They also regularly invite Senior Managers from large companies as Guest Faculty to share real life scenario with the students. I could see significant improvement in interaction with Industry during recent years. Projects, quizzes and assignments are integral part of the evaluation process. During the first year, all subjects are compulsory and are spread across all domains like marketing, finance, operations, consulting and HR. In second year, students are given the freedom to pick electives of their interests. Case discussions and video clips are also used for teaching. Inclusion of projects and assignments is strictly followed by each professor in his respective subject. Students get a basket of choices for specialization in their second years and the courses are relevant to the changing and demanding industry standards. Professors mostly follow case based teaching methods and help students in approaching solutions the practical way. Infrastructures like library, IT network are excellent. Students have access to Central Library of IIT. Hostel facilities are also very good & students have access to several activities like swimming pool/Gymnasium. NIRF had ranked "7" during 2017.I am sure VGSOM will move upwards within top 5 in next few years. They have every potential to improve further & become world class management institute.

The best part of VGSOM is its ROI and placements. The campus is huge sprawling over 2100 acres, but it is shared with the IITians. The hostels are quite old but the VGSOM building is new and it stands out from the rest of the buildings on the campus. The hostel rooms have internet connectivity but you have to pay for using it although the charges are nominal. The canteen is okay, not something to boast about. The course here is only for engineers and hence it is specially designed for them. The faculty is highly qualified and very impressive. Some of them have up to 25 years of experience in the industry. The life is very hectic here and if you manage to find some time there are many clubs and activities on campus to keep you busy. The students take part in the IIT KGP festival as well, which is a very reputed festival of national level. There are regular guest lectures by very renowned personalities. The course is more suitable for engineers and also designed in such a way. IIT KGP being the oldest one in the country it lends its reputation to the management department too.

ROI of this college is very good for which one can prefer this college to other colleges present in the same league. Faculties are average.Real knowledge comes from peer learning and self-study. One can get good industry exposure by working in live projects offered to the students. Choose this college if you are interested in consulting, operations and general management roles. Marketing and Finance roles also get offered but the quantity is limited.Campus life is great. Here you will succeed in proportion to the effort you put for achieving your goals. There will be students telling that this college is not good enough but I am telling from my personal experience that I did not see any classmate who put efforts and didn't get rewarded in proportion to that.

The best MBA school in Eastern Region

Batch of Jan. 1, 2017 | MBA
Great place to learn the ins and outs of MBA. The students here are excellent, given the fact that most of them are from prominent universities like NITs, BITS, Jadavpur University, so one of the brightest minds of India come here to pursue management studies. The college infrastructure is excellent, with computers in laboratories equipped with all the latest software and management tools. One does not need to worry about placements as almost the entire batch is placed within a period of the week during the final placements.

An experience to cherish

This college has pretty good infrastructure including free and fast LAN connections. But the hostel facilities provided are not up to the mark. The rooms provided are small and are not maintained. The placements are pretty decent but has one major problem. Most of the visiting companies are IT firms and offer similar profiles.

SIBM Pune vs VGSOM for MBA in Operations?

Veeralkumar Thakur 1st May, 2019

Management has major domains like Finance, Operations, Strategy, Marketing, Information Technology, Human Resource and other minor domains.

Industrial and Operational Management is a part of Operations Management domain which come under the large umbrella of Management.

Work experience is one of the crucial parameters expected (not mandatory) aspects of any operational management aspirants opting for any college.

SBIM Pune is one of renowned colleges in Pune for MBA. It's cutoff lies around 75+ SNAP percentile. It does have a good reputation and infrastructure for MBA program. On the other hand VGSOM, being a child of IIT KGP, it has the great infrastructure and reach better than SIBM. But track record of Placements for SIBM shows greater than VGSOM.

Overall both the colleges seem good, but it's your decision that which factor is more important for you, like infrastructure, education quality, placements, location etc and then make decision.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Hi there,I have scored 93.58 in CAT.Is there any possibility of me making it to VGSOM?

Aman Raj Student Expert 8th Jan, 2019

Well, the cut-off is 90 percentile. VGSoM emphasizes on work-ex and the past acads too. So, the better such external parameters you have the better the chances of a call at the earlier 90s. However, 93–94 is a safe side. I know people making the convert just at the cutoff.
You can refer to their website for a better clarification on the composite score calculation.

I am an a GEM with 10/12/grad as 95/84/80 respectively a fresher .what percentile is needed to get a call from iit kgp mba

Zubin Mehta 16th Aug, 2018
CAT scores mpre than 90 percentile is enough for getting call from IiT KHARAGPUR.

You also bave excellent academic scores an dhence good chances if sxores above 95 on safe side.

Cutoff trends for all shared below.
