Chances are pretty high if you could afford higher fess as compare to others. I mean to say that your son can get CSE in VIT Vellore but not in Category 1. He can get CSE in either Category 3rd or even 4th depending upon the demand.

In 3rd category you will have to pay 3.98 Lakhs per annum as academics fees while in 4th category you will have to pay 4.78 lakhs per annum, excluding Mess and hostel charges.

I would suggest you to join SRM because your rank in VITEEE can only help you to get Civil Engineering and the placement for that is not good enough in VIT.If you will seek for top branches then you will have to go for management quota for which you will have to pay lots of money.So, if you are financially good then you can go for VIT with management quota.

SRM is good for sure. Because SRM is ranked in the top 10 private engineering universities/institutions, which makes it way better than the MIT, Pune. SRM even have their own all-India level entrance examinations.  MIT has for sure plenty of companies and SRM too is doing good. My suggestion would be, if you are from South then go to MIT and learn diff culture and if you are from North then either is going to be a diff culture.

SRM Institute of Science & Technology has released the SRMJEEE Result. The registerations for counselling has been started. As  per previous records, the cutoff rank for computer science in Chennai campus is around 10,000. The cut-off depends on number of factors like The number of students appearing for the exam, number of seats available, difficulty level of the exam, etc.

The closing ranks for various colleges depends on various factors. And due to variations in factors year after year the closing ranks and seats differ consequently.

But yes previous year closing ranks helps us get an idea about the ranks of current year.

According to the past cutoff ranks you can get CSE branch.

But not certainly at the Chennai campus .

If you wish to get admission to only Chennai campus you can look for some other branch too.

You can get CSE at Ramapuram campus,NCR Campus(Ghaziabad),SRM University(Sonipat) or at Vadapalani campus.

There is no provision to slide your campus through SRMJCCA counselling. You can only slide your branch by submitting your willingness as 'Accept and Upgrade' by logging in with your credentials in application portal. If you do so you can slide your branch in round 2 and a seat will be allotted in the same campus but different branch if there are vacant seats considering your rank, category and preferences. You need to pay one lakh as fee. If you cannot afford money then you have to take the help of financial institutions such education loan or scholarships. Think about such resources which can help you financially. If not you can submit your willingness as 'forfeit' and you can quit the counselling and leave the seat.

As you have mentioned that you have secured 1887 rank in SRM which is excellent rank. You can get your desired branch in your desired campus. However, SRM Amravati is a new campus and its placement is not yet done because its just opened 2 years ago. If you don't have any problem with Chennai then you may join the SRM Kattankulathur campus without even thinking twice. The area, the facilities, the placements, fests, sports, cultural and technical activities, every sort of thing is provided in this campus. There's no better than this.

As you have mentioned that you have secured 38000 rank in SRM. You can get seat in many branches but except CSE. If you are interested in IT then you are on the border line. As cutoff rank changes every year based on various factors. However, for other campuses in chennai like vadapalani and Ramapura you can get IT.
