    About NBU

    The university was established in 1962 by an act passed by the West Bengal government. The University of North Bengal is also known as NBU Siliguri. The campus of the university is spread over an area of 315.99 acres of land. NBU Siliguri is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade A. The university is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The mission and vision of the University of North Bengal is to provide quality based education and nurture responsible citizens of the society and the nation.

    The courses are offered in the fields of law, arts, science, computer applications, management, research and others. The popular courses offered by the university are Diploma in French Language, B.A. L.L.B, PG Diploma, L.L.M, M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.B.A, M.C.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. For admission to the courses, candidates have to go through the selection procedure of the University of North Bengal. The total number of faculty members in the university is 252 with the total number of students enrolled is 3968. Thus, the student-teacher ratio at NBU Siliguri is 16:1.

    There are ample facilities available at the university.     The university is located at Raja Rammohunpur, West Bengal. There are various modes of transport to reach the University of North Bengal. One can travel by air, road or rail to reach the university. The nearest airport to the university is Bagdogra International Airport. The distance between the airport and the university is 7 km and would take approximately 12 minutes to reach by cab or auto. Siliguri Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station to NBU Siliguri. It is located at a distance of 8.3 km and would take around 20 minutes by cab or auto. The nearest bus stop is Siliguri Bus Stop and is 7.4 km far from the university. It would take 16 minutes from the bus stop to reach the University of North Bengal.

    The auditoriums of the university are popularly known as Rabindra Bahnu Mancha and Vidyasagar Mancha. They are used for multipurpose activities like organising events, seminars, etc. Free first-aid facility is available in NBU Siliguri Campus.     University of North Bengal Scholarships

    Many scholarships are provided by the university. Some of them are Emeritus Fellowship, Post Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme For University Rank Holders In General & Honours Courses At Undergraduate Level, Maulana Azad National Fellowship For Minority Students, etc. Students have to meet the University of North Bengal scholarship eligibility criteria to avail the scholarships. Central government and UGC also provides scholarships to deserving candidates after meeting the eligibility criteria.

    1. PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST Students for pursuing Professional Courses- This scholarship is provided by the University Grants Commission. To avail the scholarship, candidates should be pursuing professional courses from the institution/college/university recognised by the UGC or funded by central or state government. Rs. 4500 per month is awarded under this scheme.

    2. National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students- Central Government, Ministry of Tribal Affairs provide this scholarship. This scholarship is offered to those candidates who belong to the ST category and have passed postgraduation and pursuing a regular full-time M.Phil/P.hD programme. Their annual family income should be up to Rs. 6 lakhs. Rs. 25,000 per month for M.Phil candidates and Rs. 28,000 per month for Ph.D candidates is offered.

    University of North Bengal Placement

    There is a university placement cell, which provides placement assistance. Carer counselling and internship assistance are also provided by the University of North Bengal placement cell.     The college campus area is quite large and it has got different building for different departments, Law Department has got its own campus. The college has got canteen which provides good food and also a hostel for both Boys and Girls. The college is regularly updated with best available facility.
