About College:

The Bombay College of Pharmacy (BCP) was established in the year 1957 by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association- Maharashtra State Branch (IPA- MSB) in Mumbai. Funding for this was jointly contributed by several pharma companies and the Government of Maharashtra. These companies invested because they realized the acute need for recruiting professionals in the field of pharmacy. The college is recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The courses are also approved by the PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) and by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation).

The BCP now provides courses right from the UG till the doctoral levels. The B. Pharm. is a four- year programme while the M. Pharm. is a two- year one. Admissions to these areas is through the national and state level examinations. The PhD. can be pursued in a minimum of two years, but usually takes longer. The entire academics is run by a cohort of departments or faculties. The Faculty exist in the areas of – Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology & Toxicology and in Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry. The institute has also conducted training programmes for external bodies on campus. Examples of beneficiaries include the likes of- the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), University of Helsinki (Finland) and the University of Jena (Germany).

Research is another important area at the BCP. It is for this reason that the Institute acts as a national facility for projects involving the DST (Department of Science and Technology) and the DPRP (Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Research Programme). Their research has been going on with the BCP on campus since March 2017. Several seminars and conferences also take place here throughout the year. Certificate programmes also keep cropping up. There is a student council to oversee all kinds of student activities, both on the fun side as well the serious matters. One of those serious matters is the Research society of BCP. This society is actually registered under the DSIR (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), making it one of the few college societies to be so. Another of those is a research collaboration with the Amrut Mody Research Foundation (AMRF).

Several publications are released from the BCP campus. They tend to record the hallmark events that take place on campus, but also publish the key research material established here. The Magazine Committee, for example, looks after the preparation of the Credence. The official newsletter published here is known as the Echo BCP. It has subscribers even outside the college among academia and industry. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. Some special lectures are also conducted here on a periodic basis.

There is an Industry Institute Interaction Cell within campus which seeks to forge positive relations with the industry. It invites industry experts to deliver guest lectures on campus, where they share some of the real- world issues they may have tackled with their companies or before. It also helps the students to interact with the external world. Students are even enrolled in what is here called the Industry Study Tour Programme (ISTP) where they are taken to the premises of various organizations, to learn how processes work. By now, thanks to the rich history and heritage of the BCP, the alumni list has gotten really strong. The alumni from BCP are at the top of several corporates such as- GSK Asia, Johnson & Johnson, Colorcon, Novartis, Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, Ind- US Pharma, TCS, Abbott Laboratories, Bristol- Myers Squibb and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories amongst other.

This proactive industry interaction has led to extremely high rankings received by the BCP across platforms. The NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) 2016 has placed the Bombay College of Pharmacy at rank 6th among all pharmacy colleges in the country. The Careers 360 magazine has ranked the BCP at 9th all India. Even the AICTE has recognized the institute as the Best Industry Linked Institute in Pharmacy for three years in a row till 2015. All this has no doubt even reflected on the positive placements’ scenario. Some of the key recruiters in recent seasons have been the likes of – Panacea, Wockhardt, Rubicon, TCS, GSK, and IPA among others.
