Green Hills engineering college 6.4/10 ACADEMIC
The DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) owes its origin to the Arya Samaj movement, started by Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He established the Dayanand Anglo- Vedic (DAV) Schools System back in 1886, in Lahore. The first DAV College came up in Jalandhar, in the year 1918. The DAV College Managing Committee (DAVMC) looks after the administration here. It is one of the largest educational groups in the country, managing multiple outfits, across the spectrum. The college is affiliated to the I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), also located in Jalandhar. This ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission).
The total campus of the Jalandhar- based DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology is worth eighteen acres of land. This college was founded in the year 2001. The technical courses in the institute have been recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The DAVIET has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade rating in it. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The DAVIET has also always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value.
And that is why the students of this college have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme) and the UBA (Unnat Bharat Abhiyan). Under the latter, villages get adopted by some of the premier educational institutes in the country, who in turn will work for the former’s welfare. Courses are run here at the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, at both the UG as well as PG levels. Courses abound from multiple streams. At the under- grad level, on offer are B. Tech programmes in the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Electrical and for Electronics & Communication.
At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available in three of these broad areas. Admissions to these courses may take place either via the direct or lateral mode. For selection to the B. Tech programmes, the national- level JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is the path. At the master’s stage, it is the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) that holds sway for the admission process. Besides engineering, the DAVIET also offers several professional courses such as the BBA and the BCA at the UG level. Correspondingly, there are the MBA and MCA options at the PG.
Some more general honours programmes are on offer at the UG level. This includes the B. Com, BHMC (Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering) and the BTTM (Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management). Further, there are some vocational programmes on offer. These are mainly in the engineering and management fields, and meant for those unable to dedicate a full- term to academics. Many of them are working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade. So, the B. Voc. may be taken up in the areas of Automobile Servicing, Software Development and in BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance). These courses are in line with the skill development schemes of the region.
The entire academics here, is run by a cohort of ten departments. Six of these are for the areas in which the B. Tech degree is awarded in. Three more are for the other academic areas covering Business Administration, Computer Applications and for Hospitality & Tourism Management. The tenth one is the Department of Applied Sciences. This handles the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics, plus the English language courses. For admissions to the MBA, the CAT (Common Admission Test) needs to be cleared. Post the results of the CAT being declared, shortlisted students need to appear for the PI (Personal Interview)- WAT (Written Ability Test) round.
The DAVIET has been extremely proactive in sealing alliances with other educational institutions. This helps in research collaboration, facilitating exchange programmes and generating consulting assignments. One such partner is the University of Ontario in Canada. Among domestic institutions, tie- ups exist with the NITs in New Delhi, Hamirpur and in Jalandhar. Such MOUs have even been sealed with corporates. These help in updating the curriculum, towards a more industry- oriented pattern. Research too plays a key role in the development of this college. For this purpose, the DAVIET has set up its own Department of Research Innovation and Consultancy. Several projects have also been undertaken by the faculty over here.
All this and more has improved the placements’ track record here at the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology in Punjab. Some of the top recruiters over the recent seasons have been the likes of- Adobe, HCL, Amazon, Aon, JD, Accenture, Wipro, ACC, IBM, Shapoorji Pallonji, SAP, TCS, Sony, DHFL, Cognizant, Asian Paints, Bajaj Allianz, Axis Bank, Ericsson, Dell, Capgemini, Kirloskar Green, Infosys, L&T, Syntel, Maruti Suzuki, Philips, Kent RO, Paytm, Havells, Hero, Birla Sun Life Insurance, HP, LG, ICICI Bank, Nestle, Metro, Kotak, Z scaler, Airtel, Honeywell, Acro petal, Samsung, Cease Fire, Tech Mahindra, Polaris, RIL, Ralson Tyres, Unisys, Tommy Hilfiger, and many more.
