GMR Institute of Technology has announced B.Tech admissions through EAMCET....
The GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT) is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh (AP). To be precise, the site is in the town of Rajam, which is in the Srikakulam district. The college was established back in the year 1997. The sprawling college campus runs over a total area worth one- hundred and fifty- five acres of land. This makes it, one of the biggest college campuses for the region. The GMRIT is affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University- Kakinada (JNTUK), also from the same state of AP. This affiliation ensures approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The technical courses here, have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
Further, the college has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council). It has earned an A grade rating in the latter. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The college is named after Shri G.M. Rao, one of the foremost business tycoons in the country. He is the Founder Chairperson of the GMR Group. The group is a leader in the areas of sugar, banking, manufacturing, IT, ferro- alloys, and now a lot in to infrastructure.
Courses are run, here at the GMRIT in AP, at both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, B. Tech programmes are available with eight main specializations. These are in the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Power, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Computer Science & Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Digital Electronics & Communication Systems, VLSI (Very Large- Scale Integration) & Embedded Systems and for Power & Industrial Drives.
Admissions to these programmes is via nationally or state- wise recognized entrance examinations. Scores of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains or the AP EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test) are considered for admissions at the UG level. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or the AP PGECET (Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test) scores are similarly considered for admissions to the M. Tech programmes at the master’s level. The entire academics at the Rajam- based GMR Institute of Technology, is run by a cohort of nine departments, each with expertise in its own area.
Eight of these are in the areas where the undergrad engineering courses are offered in. The last one is the Department of Humanities and Basic Sciences. This one takes care of the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics, plus the language courses. Research also plays a very important role in the development of the GMRIT. For this purpose, several research groups have been forged on campus at the GMRIT. These are led by the individual faculty heads of departments. These institute level research groups are named after- Nano Materials, Data Science, Internet of Things, Intelligent Signal Processing, Modeling & Simulation, Environmental Sciences & Engineering, Renewable Energy Sources & Management and the Vision & Learning Group.
The GMRIT has also received several research grants from corporate or government bodies. Some such prominent bodies include- the UGC, AICTE, DST (Department of Science and Technology), AICE (Advanced International Certificate for Education), SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board), CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), BRNS (Board of Research in Nuclear Science), APPCB (Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board) and the ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education). Several projects are currently undergoing. A number of the faculty members have seen their works published at recognized, peer- reviewed, academic and research journals. Several have even presented their papers at national and international conferences and seminars.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. Access to public transport and convenience stores is possible immediately outside the college campus.
The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. This has also led to the college doing well across ranking platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has placed it within the AAAA category among engineering colleges. The placements too, as a result have come off well. Some of the top recruiters where GMRIT students have been placed in, include the likes of- TCS, Wipro, Syntel, MU Sigma, HCL, Tech Mahindra, EPAM Systems, Hyundai, Hexaware, Just Dial and of course the GMR Group, besides several others.
Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. The cumulative scores of colleges are then calculated and they are divided into clusters as per their scores. Careers360 ranks private and government colleges separately as the support system of both types of Institutions is completely different.
