PDEU has more than 390 Ph.D. scholars studying in the guidance of more than 225 Ph.D. supervisors. In line with the necessity of a multidisciplinary education and the recommendations in NEP, Interdisciplinary research has been introduced from the current admission cycle. This will help the prospective scholars, to work in the domain of their interest. The financial assistance is also enhanced from the current admission cycle, which is now in line with the government fellowship / scholarships. There is also provision of Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme fellowship in the domains of Electronics and IT for full time students.

Eligibility Criteria

For Indian Nationals

A student seeking an admission to Ph.D. Programme of the University is required to have minimum educational qualification as mentioned hereunder;

A 1-year / 2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year / 4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

For research in Engineering / Technology

M.Tech. / M. E. / M.Sc. (Tech.) or its equivalent along with Four Year Graduation as recognized by UGC / AICTE in appropriate area.

B.Tech. / B.E. / B.Sc. (Tech.) (4 Years / 8 Semesters) or its equivalent with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed in appropriate area.

M.Sc. (Physics / Chemistry / Electronics / Nanotechnology / Materials Science) eligible to apply also for the research areas related to Solar Energy.

B.Sc. (Physics / Chemistry / Electronics / Nanotechnology / Materials Science) (4 Years / 8 Semesters) eligible to apply also for the research areas related to Solar Energy with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

M.Sc. (Biotechnology / Microbiology / Biochemistry / Bioinformatics / Life Sciences) eligible to apply also for the research areas related to Biotechnology

Admission Details

1) Written Aptitude Test (WAT) shall consist of 50% weightage on research methodology and 50% weightage on subject specific questions. As a part of this, the question paper on Research Methodology will be of 50 marks, each question will carry one mark. Subject wise Entrance Test will be conducted, which consists of 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark.

2) Entrance test shall be qualifying in nature with qualifying marks as 50%, and only such candidates will be eligible to appear at the PI - Personal Interview / Viva Voce.

3) Admission merit list for the eligible candidates who qualified in the written test and appeared in PI will be based on 30% of Personal Interview (PI) score, and 70% of Entrance Test score.
