My great degree drained my social life.

    Verified Review
    College Infrastructure

I love the heritage look of the building and it is beautiful and perfect for my Instagram. The absolute saving grace for me, the feature I pray to, is the air conditioning in the classrooms as it is how I survive the summer seasons. Beyond that, I have to prepare to feel cramped because the shared campus makes everything tiny. The internet facility provided by the college is very weak and I try to avoid the washrooms entirely because the maintenance is permanently questionable. Overall, the college is pretty, but I wish the utilities matched the reputation.

    Academics

I came here for the degree and I think I picked the right place. My English faculty is undeniably elite. They are the sole reason I give this section a perfect score. The curriculum is heavy, the discussions are intense, and they expect me to do real, critical research. It feels like a boot camp, but I appreciate the rigor and the excellent support in the tutorials because I know I will be completely prepared to face those brutal Calcutta University exams. I genuinely feel I am receiving top-tier education.

    Placements

I am an English Honours student and placements are not designed for me. I see the placement cell primarily catering to Commerce and vocational streams. The few opportunities I see for English majors are often low-paid, basic administration roles, which I find frankly insulting to my level of study. The unspoken rule I have learned here is that my job placement is contingent on me getting a Master’s degree immediately.

    Value for Money

I thought the initial fee was fine as I am paying for the brand name, the location, and those glorious air-conditioned rooms. However, I keep getting hit with a relentless system of mandatory, compulsory fees for every obscure seminar, workshop, or department day. These extra charges add up rapidly, making the final cost far higher than I was advertised. Ultimately, I feel I am paying a premium for the college's legacy and reputation above all else.

    Campus Life

I think the location is fantastic, which is important because all the fun I have happens outside the gates. Inside, the atmosphere is excessively strict and I often feel like I am back in high school. They track my attendance with religious intensity. While the focus on safety as an all-girls institution is reassuring for my parents, I find that this seriously restricts my freedom. Big, famous college fests or a vibrant on-campus scene is very rare here.

Good academics and location, needs better campus amenities.

    College Infrastructure

All the facilities are provided but the entire campus footprint is noticeably restricted. This constraint is magnified because the college and school sections must share major communal facilities like the large field and the primary auditorium space. The canteen food served is very average.

    Academics

The teaching style is structured and promotes high academic discipline, which is vital in a humanities course. My first-semester experience shows a manageable, focused workload, and I greatly appreciate that the professors routinely dedicate time in class to patiently clarify doubts and offer further academic guidance.

    Placements

Recruiters who do visit rarely, if ever, advertise roles appropriate for Education graduates or core humanities profiles. Given this, I am actively planning to pursue a Master’s degree immediately after graduation. The reality is that securing my first career opportunity will rely entirely on my own proactive efforts and external networking, not institutional support.

    Value for Money

The value proposition is a mixed result. On one hand, the fee structure feels comparatively reasonable against the physical comforts provided—the air-conditioned environment and the high-quality faculty are certainly worth the competitive price. On the other hand, the overall value is substantially reduced by the almost non-existent career support provided specifically for students holding a Bachelor of Arts degree.

    Campus Life

Being an all-girls institution, it automatically creates a very comfortable and secure learning zone. It is right in the city center, which makes accessing great food and the metro extremely easy. There is a vibrant array of clubs and societies, from debate to creative writing, to join. The biggest drawback is undoubtedly the small and often overcrowded canteen during lunch hours.

    College Infrastructure

The college has a modern media laboratory and it is well-equipped with all the necessary editing stations but the general classroom technology, like projectors and sound systems, often feels dated and inconsistent across the campus. Furthermore, the lack of accessible parking or smooth transport links severely impacts city commuting. There is a noticeable inconsistency between the recently renovated spaces and the neglected common areas. Overall, the infrastructure is perfectly functional, but it definitely needs substantial technology upgrades outside of the dedicated media wing to achieve better consistency.

    Academics

The program delivers a strong, highly detailed theoretical framework, with professors emphasizing classic, foundational texts for the field of journalism. However, this classical approach regrettably leaves very little room for rapid, hands-on skill acquisition and industry practice. I often find myself needing to learn specific industry skills independently because the class pace is either too slow or too dense.

    Placements

While the college boasts a powerful alumni network, accessing it directly for media opportunities has proven to be extremely difficult for me. The energy and resources of the placement cell are clearly, and perhaps understandably, directed toward the commerce stream. Though we receive excellent career guidance talks, but I feel these rarely translate into tangible job interview calls from relevant media houses.

    Value for Money

The fee structure is the greatest strength of Shri Shikshayatan College and the primary reason for me to choose this institution. I sincerely believe I could not find another reputable program in the city that offers such an incredible financial bargain. Even with its various structural and academic flaws, the low cost easily justifies the entire educational investment, making it an unparalleled option for a smart, budget-conscious student focused on long-term career planning.

    Campus Life

The various societies and committees offer amazing extracurricular avenues for personal development, and the sheer competitiveness among my ambitious classmates is highly motivating, encouraging genuine growth. I appreciate the strong sense of tradition and the deeply rooted history the college naturally maintains.

Gaining a really strong and respected education.

    College Infrastructure

The College Infrastructure is a solid four star campus, which is charming, always clean, and functional, with good computer laboratories and a library. The catch is that it is tiny and we have to sacrifice big sports fields for that prime location, which is the only real drawback according to me.

    Academics

The teaching here is really about the basics, which is awesome. The professors are always motivating us, and are always ready to clarify doubts. I feel super prepared for the real world because the foundation they build is just that strong.

    Placements

Placement is a decent three-star setup for me. It is like a great, reliable safety net, which is what most people are looking for.The big names, the auditing giants, show up every year, and most people who try hard land a solid job with a respectable paycheck. It is reliable for a standard accounting career, which is what most of us are here anyway.

    Value for Money

I will give it a definite five stars. The fees are low, and the college name carries serious weight in Kolkata, so it is a very smart, affordable investment that pays off big time. It feels like getting a premium product for a budget price.

    Campus Life

Campus life gets four stars from me for pure, concentrated energy. Since we are all squeezed into a smaller space in the city, the energy level is just constantly high. Events and clubs are always happening, and everyone knows everyone else, which is really cool. We are right in the middle of everything, so the actual campus extends to the whole neighbourhood with all the coffee shops and eateries right outside the gates. It is a tight-knit community feeling.

Excellent commerce education at a surprisingly low cost.

    College Infrastructure

The grand, old building is definitely photogenic, but its age genuinely causes operational issues daily. There is a desperate need to modernize the classrooms with proper, working technology instead of relying on outdated tools. The library is my only quiet escape and is thankfully managed quite well for focused study sessions. It is frustrating that serious athletes have virtually zero dedicated sports facilities on campus whatsoever. Frankly, the cramped common areas and small washrooms are definitely the least pleasant parts of the daily experience.

    Academics

This Bachelor of Commerce course is intensely focused, meaning the workload constantly demands my complete attention from the beginning. The most reassuring part is that the professors are true experts who teach concepts, not just book chapters. They stress on the importance of conceptual clarity, which I know is vital for facing the future professional exams. The speed at which they rush through the syllabus is genuinely stressful and requires serious effort outside of class time. The rule about mandatory attendance here is completely unforgiving as missing even one class feels like a major risk.

    Placements

The starting salary packages seem very average and reasonable for fresh commerce graduates in our city. However, students dreaming of a top-tier core investment banking job will definitely need to look outside the college system entirely.

    Value for Money

The single biggest win for this college is the astonishing value I receive for the low fees I have to pay. The Bachelor of Commerce course fee structure is very decent. All fees are clearly stated with absolute honesty by the administration, so there are zero unwelcome hidden charge.

    Campus Life

The student body is surprisingly vibrant, very diverse, and truly welcoming. We have various large cultural, social, and important commerce-related fests that keep the entire calendar year exciting and engaging. I truly believe that actively joining societies is the only way to quickly develop essential leadership and communication skills.

Academic strength overshadows campus fun and freedom.

    College Infrastructure

The location on Lord Sinha Road is excellent for commuting ease, a major plus point. Inside, the air conditioning is consistently reliable across all the floors, which is very essential. My biggest issue is that the campus feels vertically constrained, like a very tall school. Sometimes getting a lift during the morning rush hours is a completely chaotic experience. The student washroom cleanliness is often inconsistent, especially during the afternoon classes.

    Academics

The Department of Commerce is staffed with dedicated professors who have true passion for the subjects. Our Accounting and Finance syllabus preparation is intensely focused on professional course alignment. They use a blend of lecture and discussion, making sure every core topic is properly understood.

    Placements

The placement cell actively works to attract recruiters, hosting many corporate pre-placement talks. For freshers, most of the bulk hiring is typically from the business processing sectors. The roles offered by the large consulting firms are generally entry level, focusing on backend operations. I have noticed that high salary packages are quite rare for those pursuing only a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

    Value for Money

The annual tuition fees are certainly not low, however, it is a fee for a premium city center experience. The reputation of this institution carries weight on a curriculum vitae for higher studies applications. The access to highly experienced faculty alone justifies the cost when compared to average colleges.

    Campus Life

The college atmosphere feels very much like an extension of a strict high school environment. There is excessive emphasis on attendance and maintaining decorum, severely limiting student freedom. The administration keeps campus hours extremely rigid, rushing us between classes and home. Grand, spontaneous cultural fests or large common gatherings are essentially non-existent here.

    Outstanding academics and highly disciplined.

    College Infrastructure

The building holds an impressive, classic presence in the middle of the city. The library is a quiet sanctuary with an extensive collection, perfect for English Honours students. I wish the campus felt slightly less shared with the school section. The canteen food is decent enough for a quick bite, but nothing exceptional to write about. Overall, the maintenance and cleanliness are generally very good.

    Academics

The professors make every effort to relate the Calcutta University syllabus to real-world contexts and ideas. We receive ample quality study materials and notes for all the complex papers. My passion for literature has definitely grown in this environment.

    Placements

For Bachelor of Arts students, the focus is definitely tilted towards career guidance and higher studies preparation rather than immediate corporate placements.Direct job opportunities specific to pure English literature are limited on campus, which is an expected reality in the liberal arts field. We receive good support for preparing for competitive exams and postgraduate applications.

    Value for Money

The investment in quality education, air conditioning, and a massive library is certainly worth the cost. I feel I am receiving a high standard of college education for a fair price. The central location also saves significant commuting time and expense.

    Campus Life

The primary drawback is that the campus area is quite compact and space is limited. We have many active societies and clubs, like the literary society, which are engaging. The administrative rules can sometimes feel a little too strict and restrictive for my liking. It is a good, secure environment but is not that much socially engaging.

    College Infrastructure

Our Journalism and Mass Communication department is fortunate to have a dedicated media laboratory. It includes a functional studio space, which is essential for production assignments. The common rooms and library facilities provide adequate spaces for focused study and research.I do wish the exterior spaces felt a bit more modern and expansive given the student body size.

    Academics

I feel that the teaching methodology sometimes leans too heavily toward theoretical lectures, requiring us to seek practical experience ourselves. Assignments are thoughtfully designed to encourage critical thinking and extensive research skills. The department does its best to arrange relevant workshops and guest lectures for industry exposure.

    Placements

The placement cell is not the primary strength of our department. Major media houses do not routinely conduct high-volume recruitment drives here. Most students who secure jobs do so through their personal contacts or off-campus internships.

    Value for Money

I am receiving a standard college degree from Calcutta University, which carries decent academic weight. The quality of education and exposure received justifies the monetary investment perfectly. It is an excellent choice for a solid undergraduate foundation without incurring significant educational debt.

    Campus Life

The sheer energy of the campus is absolutely contagious, making every single day exciting. Our central metropolitan location acts like a powerful magnet for fantastic opportunities outside class. The students here take huge pride in organizing the annual festival and all smaller society events.

    Verified Review
    College Infrastructure

I realise the college is confined to a tall, old structure, which is typical for central Kolkata institutions. The layout is practical, yet it means I constantly feel squeezed, especially in the hallways during break time. I genuinely appreciate that the small library offers a consistent, chilly escape for highly focused study sessions. I find myself frustrated by the perpetually slow elevators, meaning I take the crowded stairs almost every single day. The college is very hygienic.

    Academics

The Commerce department here runs like a well-oiled machine, completely focused on driving high university results. My professors are incredibly experienced, delivering lectures with a no-nonsense approach that demands immediate attention from me. I understand now that the mandatory attendance policy is really a strict disciplinary tool ensuring I never fall behind the heavy workload. The pace of covering the extensive Calcutta University syllabus is relentless, which leaves me very little breathing room.

    Placements

I have observed that the official placement cell seems to focus heavily on quantity over finding core finance or accounting roles for me. The majority of companies that actively recruit on campus are mass hirers, mainly in business process outsourcing and customer support. I find it frustrating that securing a spot even in these non-core roles still requires maintaining an extremely high academic percentage throughout the course.

    Value for Money

I think the value for money here is excellent when I compare our low fee structure to the cost of other comparable institutes nearby. I recognize that I am essentially buying into a top-tier Kolkata brand name for my Commerce degree at a very reasonable price point. The investment is justified because the faculty quality and strict academic environment are genuinely superior to many other places. The infrastructure, especially the coveted air conditioning, feels like a luxury I am barely paying for at all. For me, securing a respected degree that opens doors for future post-graduate studies makes this financial decision a clear win.

    Campus Life

My initial experience with campus life is a disciplined routine where I am mostly moving between my classroom, the library, and the small canteen space. The strict attendance mandates and the intense syllabus limit how much free time I actually have for informal socialization.

A bright, balanced and truly memorable college journey.

    College Infrastructure

The campus is not huge, but every corner feels clean and well cared for. The classrooms are airy and the projectors actually work most of the time. I get a calm vibe from the library and I personally love the common area where students hang out between lectures.

    Academics

Classes are quite regular and the teachers are genuinely dedicated to their subjects. They explain patiently, even if someone ask the same doubt twice. The syllabus feels a bit heavy at times but manageable with consistency.

    Placements

Placement opportunities are there but mostly for basic profiles. Big corporate names are still rare, but the college is improving gradually. Workshops and soft skill sessions are conducted which I feel is very helpful for my interview preparation. Students who take initiative can find internships through college contacts.

    Value for Money

For the fee I pay, the college definitely delivers solid academics. Facilities like the library, laboratories and study support are worth appreciating. The overall environment feels balanced between discipline and comfort. So yes, it feels like money spent in the right place for long-term benefit.

    Campus Life

This is honestly the best part of being in Shri Shikshayatan. The campus always feels lively, whether it is a fest, club meet or random chatter. Seniors are welcoming and there is a nice bond among different batches. Fests bring out everyone’s creative side and make college days memorable.
