Yes it is possible to get free seat in SRM university. But you must be in the top top ranks for srmjee. And also your family income must less than Rs. 1lakh per annum. Also they will give seat by their pudhiya thalaimurai trust they even gave free

You can change your caste from obc to general .As you have already submitted your application you can contact srm regarding this. They haven't yet opened the correction window and the date is not mentioned when the correction will start.

As you have mentioned that you comes under BC-B but it is state level reservation and SRM JEE and KLEEE is University level entrance examination so to get reservation your category should lie under central list of reservation available at ( http://www.ncbc.nic.in/User_Panel/CentralListStateView.aspx ) but as you have mentioned

SRM University is far better than LPU University. SRM has a bigger Tech fest, Cultural Fest & it has a good Academics records also. Srm has No ragging issues & have good friendly environment.  Srm has a excellent lab Department as comapared to LPU University.

SRM and VIT are pretty much same in academics and has the same employability record. Both offers excellent courses and provides lots of opportunities.But one is located in chennai and the other one is in vellore. It's up to you whether you want to live in a city or not
