A Journey of Raw Material Fresher to Final Product

Posted on 25 Mar' 18 by Kashish Arora
Batch of Jan. 1, 2019 | BE Chemical Engineering
Based on my experience, things you will get after admitting to Dr. SSBUICET are: 1. Better Placement Opportunities Here, average package is greater than 5.5 lacs per annum every year, having UOP Honeywell, Reliance Petrochemicals, Cairn India, Jubilant Life Sciences, EXL Services, ZS Associates, Vedantta Groups and a lot more as our recruiters. 2. Lower Fees You will get your entire engineering degree in less than 1lac (16–17k per year tuition fee). 3. UG Research Opportunities If you are interested in higher studies in Science, though a difficult task. 4. Performance in GATE Check out GATE 2017 performance of students of our department -5 Rankers in top 100 including Rank 11. Even this year i.e. 2018, students of our department & recently passed out seniors performed really well-securing Ranks under Top 100. 5. Strong Alumni Base Our Alumnis are present at every place, where Chemical Engineers are required, whether it is Shell, Purdue University, IOCL etc. Whenever department needs them for various purposes, they come forward to help the department. 6. Faculty I have a mixed opinion on that point. Some faculty members are quite good, well experienced & helpful while some are not up to the mark to teach in a University. 7. Latest MHRD Rankings for Engineering Institutions UICET was placed at 100th position in that rankings. And, don't forget, UICET secured 100th position in spite of the fact that it has only Chemical Engineering & Food Technology as a course. If you will compare it with only Chemical Engineering Institutions, then it will surely secure position in top 20 Chemical Engineering Institutions in India. 8. Perks of living in North Campus of Panjab University for your entire day, North Campus of PU is like mini city. We have 14 sector market, Dispensary, Administration Block, PU main Library i.e. A.C. Joshi Library adjacent to our department and Stu-C (Student Center) where we have common games room, Quality food at cheaper rates, Coffee House for South Indian food and a lot more. 9. Student Crowd Some students here, are exceptionally talented & very knowledgeable. Various clubs & societies, whether technical or cultural, in our department help them to nourish their talents. I have met many good thinkers, intellectuals, talented & knowledgeable persons here. So, calling Dr. SSBUICET, just a school of Chemical Engineering, wouldn't be a good thing. In Chemical Engineering Language, all I can say is, Dr. SSBUICET can become a journey of raw material fresher to final product i.e. a good all round personality engineer for you, if you will choose opportunities provided here, carefully & effectively.

Dr SSBUICET

Dr SSBUICET is good college to pass-out from. Though it is no IIT, it does have it its own merits.....being part of Panjab University. The college has good infrastructure considering its fees and has a well-rounded faculty. The only backdrops are excessive politics within both the college and the University.

A simple orthodox infrastructure with a building consisting of laboratories with some old machines which are now getting upgraded with coming years. Faculty consist of hughly educated persons with few having lot of experience in industry and sime having deep knowledge of the core subjects of chemical engineering. Placement is very good. Some of the best companies in the sector hire undergrads from here. The alumni relationship is best. Most of the alumni of the college are at top places in various sector. Every year there is an alumni meet which provides the future professional interact with the experienced professionals.

This institution was formerly known as Department of chemical engineering and technology (DCET). Overall an affordable place to study engineering. Some faculty members are really good with vast experience and really good subject knowledge. Hostels are also available at very low prices making it a better place for students from economically weaker sections. Infrastructure needs renovation. I would recommend students to go for chemical only not Food Technology or MBA course. Placements are good with an average package of 5.5 lpa. Closing rank is 85k for general category.

In terms of infrastructure, the college can be ranked on a moderate level. There are some really good professors but still, there's a lack of teachers who are proficient at what they teach. The placements in the college are satisfactory. Recreational activities like sports competitions, annual cultural fest (CYANIDE), quizzes etc are conducted for students from time to time. All in all, if you are looking for an average and quite affordable govt college, this is the right place for you.

Talking about infrastructure, it is good keeping in mind the affordability of the college. The faculty is very good in lines of knowledge and research experiences. They have separate classes for deep knowledge of the subject. The placement is also good. Packages offered are good.

If you want to live a college life then surely go for this college. It all depends on how you utilise the free time that you get when you are studying in a government university. Infrastructure is not at all good, but the price you pay to pursue chemical engineering is a lot to be considered about. Other factors like the social life or the hostels can be considered to be more or less similar to other government institution. If you know how to utilise your time, then you can opt for it. Return on investment is much more considering the fees and placements. In the end, you will gain friends for the lifetime and yes a job too

The college is good in terms of placements but still needs a lot more improvement in improving the quality of infrastructure and the industrial exposure being provided to the students. Also the college needs to improve its brand value .The faculty is good but sometimes for few core subjects, guest faculties are assigned which leads to misconceptions regarding important topics amongst students.

Dr. SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Panjab University (formerly known as Department of Chemical Engineering) is one of the oldest chemical engineering institutes of the country. The college has well equipped Unit Operations (Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow etc), Polymer and Food Technology labs. The college offers various courses as listed :- BE Chemical Engineering, BE Food Technology, M.Sc Industrial Chemistry and PhD. The various other labs are as follows - Applied Physics, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Reaction Engineering and Computer Science. All the labs are quite well equipped. Various companies such as Cairn India, Honeywell UOP and Reliance Industries Limited visit the college with internship offers for 3rd year students. The companies which visit the campus regularly for placement offers include Cairn India, Technip, Reliance Industries Limited, ZS Associates, Jubilant, Honeywell UOP etc. The college conducts its annual cultural fest 'Cyanide' every year in March. The various clubs and societies of the institute are Enactus - DR SSB UICET, IIChe, IPI, the oratory club - 'The Monologuing Marauders', the music club - 'Reverie', the arts club - 'Debonairs', the drama club - 'Rit Ke Mastaane' and the dance club - 'Dhunki'. The college life is quite happening as various events are regularly being organized in the department related to education, sports and extra-curricular activities. The students are allotted hostels in their first year on the basis of the rank obtained in JEE Mains. The hostels are fine when compared to other government colleges. The professors are quite skilled at their subjects. However, the college does face issues sometimes for certain subjects and guest faculties have to be appointed. Overall the college offers a good environment and if you want to pursue Chemical Engineering, I would highly recommend UICET.

A great department of one of the top rated universities. The department is the best in north for chemical engineering. A little bit old but well maintained labs. Great placements in core chemical companies. This department is situated in front of the main university library, so crowd near the department is very good. Though the department is a bit old and this reflects in its building but college life is fully enjoyed there. Plus being in panjab university will give u a hell lot of exposure. Top rankers of jee main chose this college and it is one of the best in chandigarh.

Being a part of Panjab university, it is one of the oldest and best department. PU main library I.e AC Joshi library is in front of this department and StuC (University main canteen) is nearby. It has a strong alumni base and good faculty to help you succeed. Enactus SSBUICET and Rit are two main technical and cultural clubs which are working through out the year. Placements are for only deserved ones.

This college is a part of huge University named 'Panjab University'. The university is spread in almost two sectors of Chandigarh- sector 14 & sector 25. From the economic point of view, college is quite inexpensive. No college can match the quality as well as the quantity of the food you will get in this college & that too at an affordable price. Hostels are real bliss(if somehow, you are able to get into one). You are going to love the campus a lot. You will get a vintage feeling from the infrastructure as the college was built in the 1950s. Wifi is available in almost all department. Senior faculties are quite knowledgeable. Try to learn maximum from them. The college has its own library from where you can get almost all books & the ones which are not available, you will get photocopies from the faculty. Moreover, there is one main library 'A.C. Joshi Library' just in front of the department (In PU campus, college is popularly known as the department) where you will find thousands of books in case you are interested. College is trying to start smart classes for which projectors have been installed. If you really work hard, you will definitely get placement in the core industry, otherwise, you can always get into IT sector. Student crowd is mainly from Chandigarh & nearby places & most of them are very intelligent. You will find students from almost every course since the college is on the main campus of the university. You can easily get stationary & college related things from a small shop near maths department as well as from 14 sector market. Overall, you will get a wonderful experience & once you pass out, you will still keep visiting the college because of 'STU-C' (canteen).

It is one of the oldest department in Panjab University and one of the best for Chemical Engineering. Great infrastructure. Its position is so strategic as main university library and the famous student centre is right in front of it. It has got the best labs for research and these researchers themselves teach the students. Overall, a great experience studying here.

One of best college

Posted on 16 May' 15 by Minto
"Finest college for Chemical Engg in North India, situated in the best city i.e. Chandigarh. Opened in 1958 this college holds great Alumni background with tremendous placement in companies related to Chemical Engg and Food Tech. Some companies being Nestle, Reliance, HPCL, etc. Being under Panjab University campus this college is worth for students vying seat in B.E. in Chemical Engg, Food Tech, & Chemical +MBA (Dual Degree). With both AICTE and UGC approved this college also stands out in terms of faculties this college stands out among other colleges with most of the faculties being PhD holders and good experience in teaching. One of the major shock for the students waiting out there is that the fees of this college for B.E. (Chemical) and B.E. (Food Tech) is just Rs. 16081 per year. Yes you heard it right its just Rs. 16081 per year. And another surprise for you is that the hostel fees is just Rs. 470 / year. With such an affordable fees, great background in terms of reputation and being in such a good city this college serves as a great advantage for all the students. Important notice: Students having only 50% attendance are also allowed to give all external exams.....!!!!"
