Life at ILEAD

Hey, everyone! I , a 1st-year student of ILEAD, and I would like to share with you all how it is like to be in the institution. Ilead was established in 2010 as is already one of the top media colleges in the country. The institute has a tie up with many renowned Indian and international companies and institutes to provide the best future to its students. The institute provides undergraduate courses in BBA and BSc in media science as well as post graduate courses in media science. Along with that it also offers specialisation courses in photography, VFX, finance, event management, HRM, Soft skills, guitar and IT. What I really like about the college is that there is a proper student-teacher relationship and everyone is cheerful, friendly and helpful. Each classroom from A to J starts with the name of an eminent personality in the field of arts or business. The college is centrally air-conditioned with a properly trained, understanding and committed faculty. The classrooms are neat and proper and every classroom has an ICR board. The college provides free wifi access to all students, but we are not allowed to use our phones during classes. Few things that I love about my institute that probably very few colleges in Kolkata have is that we have a proper Audio- Visual lab called ‘Ray’s Studio’ named after the renowned filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, providing training in directing, filmmaking, photography with a green screen. Our college also has a library with over 12,000 books of different genres including art and culture, fiction, biographies, science, media, facts, lifestyle etc. It also has an audio-visual library with audios and DVD’s of various prominent artists in the field of media. Apart from that we also have a bookstore which consists of books of various categories by distinguished authors and playwrights and each book costs only Rs 50. Our institute has a cafeteria and a canteen providing healthy and hygienic food at reasonable prices. This is not it, our college also has a gymnasium of its own with proper equipment and driven trainers. Every now and then, some notable personality visits our institute and interacts with the students. Internships are provided to students from second year onwards to provide work experience to the ILEADers. We also have a soft skills class twice a week which is very enriching and increases our self-confidence and provides motivation to us. We also learn how to cope up various situations through those classes. We also have a movie screening in the auditorium once a week. The auditorium is large enough and can be divided into three equal parts when needed. We also have a computer lab with proper machines. Even though there are not many problems that we face in the college, one major issue is the distance from home to a college that most of the students face. Another issue of major concern is that there is a lot of pressure on the scholarship students as they are given extra duties. One more problem is that the institute charges a high penalty cost in case of less attendance or confiscation of cell phones. Another source of difficulty is that the students are kept back at college till late in the evening in case of seminars, events etc. which is a major setback as many students have transport issues. But if these issues are kept aside, I believe our institute could be one of the best institutes in the near future because it provides you with a fine campus, friendly peers and a great faculty with job placements in companies such as Infosys, IBM, Dell, etc.

Good infrastructure with very good teachers in the past who all left because of the bad management and problematic owners of the college. Now the college is plagued by all the staff leaving one after the other, and new inexperienced and bad teachers coming in. There are a very few good teachers remaining. Apart from this the pathetic rules and restrictions of the college and it's money mindedness ruins the experience for everyone.
