SSM Howrah Admission 2025: Dates, Application Form, Courses, Fees & Eligibility

SSM Howrah has since been a college affiliated to Calcutta University and offers numerous undergraduate programs in arts, commerce, and science.  The admission cycle of SSM Howrah goes hand in hand with that of the academic calendar of its affiliated university.  Eligibility criteria vary according to the course to be applied for at SSM Howrah. A general rule for admission would be that the students must have passed their 10+2 education in a recognized board. In some cases, additional requirements like subject-specific criteria may apply for honors courses. SSM Howrah thus provides both general and honors degrees, where students have a choice of either opting for broader education into a less specialized field of studies or entering into specialized study within a particular discipline.

Application Process

The application process is carried out by Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidyalaya, Howrah, and usually involves the following steps:

1. Notification: The college announces the commencement of the admission process through its official website and local newspapers.

2. Online Application: The candidates have to fill the online application form present in the official website of the college. They must ensure to give correct information as per the 10+2 mark sheet and other relevant documents.

3. Document Upload: Scanned copies of necessary documents including the 10+2-mark sheet, passport-sized photographs, and other relevant certificates must be uploaded along with the application.

4. Application Fee Payment: The candidates pay the requisite application fee by the prescribed payment method online.

5. Merit List Publication: The college draws the merit lists on the basis of predetermined criteria for each course and publishes them on the college website and notice boards.

6. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates should appear for document verification. Original documents, including mark sheets, certificates, and identity proofs, will be verified.

7. Fee Payment: After successful document verification, candidates can confirm their admission by paying admission fees.

8. Enrollment: Completing all formalities after fee payment, students are respectively enrolled and awarded a university ID along with admission information.

Normal documentation required for the application process is:

• 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and certificates
• Character certificate from the last attended institution
• Transfer certificate if applicable
• Caste certificate for reserved category students
• Recent passport-sized photographs
• Any other relevant certificate or document as specified by the college

Degree wise Admission Process

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.): The college offers B.A. programs, with a total intake of 1,649 seats that include general and honors courses in the subjects of Bengali, History, Political Science, English, Philosophy, Sanskrit, and Education. The B.A. admission process is done according to the marks in the qualifying examination (10+2).

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com): The college provides the B.Com. program with 122 seats for the general course and 197 for B.Com. Accountancy Honors. Admission is usually based upon the 10+2 results of the candidates, where commerce-related subjects are considered.

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.): B.Sc. programs with 183 seats for the general course are offered at SSM Howrah. The honors courses are in Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Geography, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Admission is usually based on the 10+2 marks obtained in the relevant science subjects.
