Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology was established in 1986 as Kumaon Engineering College by Shri Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Government of India. The institute was renamed Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology in 2011. The college is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The autonomous institute is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). BTKIT Dwarahat has also been selected for TEQIP-III project. TEQIP-III is a quality improvement programme of the Government of India, funded by the World Bank. The campus of the college spreads over an area of 155 acres of land.
The college offers courses in the fields of engineering and computer science. The courses offered by BTKIT Dwarahat are B.Tech, M.Tech, M.C.A. and Ph.D. The courses are affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University Dehradun and are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The BTKIT Dwarahat admission process begins with the candidates meeting the eligibility criteria. After meeting the eligibility criteria candidates can apply for admission at the institute. BTKIT Dwarahat admission to the B.Tech programme is based on the scores of JEE Main. The institute releases cutoff after the declaration of the result. Candidates meeting the cutoff have to appear for counselling. Seats are allocated on the basis of merit scores of JEE Main. According to the Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology admission process of the M.Tech programme, seats are allotted to the GATE qualified candidates during the counselling on the basis of merit.
