MA in Journalism and Mass Communication is a two year postgraduate programme in the field of mass communication and journalism. Types of MAJMC
MAJMC is a two year postgraduate programme in the field of mass communication and journalism.
It is necessary for the candidates who wish to take admission in M.A in Journalism and Mass Communication programmes must follow the eligibility criteria of MAJMC programme.
Candidates must have completed graduation from any recognized university.
The eligibility criteria of MAJMC may vary for different institutes/universities. Some colleges must ask for some minimum percentage for admission in their MAJMC programme.
Candidates must have studied english as one of the subjects during senior secondary or graduation.
The admission process of Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication starts with the registration process. The institutes offering MAJMC programme opens their admission portal through which interested candidates can fill their applications. Some institutes offer seats based on the last examination qualifying marks.
On the other hand, some institutes such as Amrita School of Communication, Jamia Millia Islamia and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University conducted their own entrance test for admission in MJMC programme. For admission in central universities like Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Jammu, Central University of Punjab, Central University of South Bihar, there is a common entrance test known as Central Universities Common Entrance Test.
MAJMC is an undergraduate specialization programme in journalism and mass communication including areas such as print media, tv journalism, advertisement, etc. There are no other areas of specialization in MAJMC programmes. However, if a student wants to go for a specialization in a particular field, he or she can pursue certificate programmes in particular skills such as creative writing, script writing, public relations, etc.
The two years postgraduate programme is divided into four semesters. It includes a three month internship. During the end of the programme, students have to submit a dissertation on any topic related to mass communication and journalism.Through the help of classroom teaching, students are edified from social history of journalism to the new age media. They are also exposed to practical learning which includes reporting, portfolio film making, etc. As a part of the outdoor learning exercise, they are also provided with regular industrial visits, seminars and presentations.

The North Maharashtra University conducts an examination for admission in MA (MCJ) programme. The result of the entrance test is published in the form of a merit list. Those candidates who are featured in the merit list have to appear in the personal interview. The qualified candidates are invited to MA programme based on their ranking in the merit list.
University of Kerala MCJ Entrance Examination
The university offers admission in 20 seats for MCJ programmes through an entrance test. The entrance test is conducted by the Department of Communication, University of Kerala and the final admissions are done based on both marks scored in graduation and entrance test.
AJK Mass Communication Research Centre Entrance Examination
It is considered as one of the most popular colleges for media and journalism programmes. The admissions are done with the help of a merit list released after an entrance test. The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre of Jamia Millia Islamia University offers a total of 50 seats in MA Mass Communication programme.
Communication Aptitude Test (CAP Test)
Amrita School of Communication conducts Communication Aptitude Test for admission to MA in Communication programme. The candidates who qualify the entrance exam are invited for a personal interview, which will be conducted after the entrance exam. Candidates who have scored more than 70% marks in their graduation programme do not have to appear in the examination. However, they need to appear in an interview conducted through Skype. The offline examination is conducted only in its Coimbatore campus.On the other hand, interviews for the candidates who reside in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana & Hyderabad will be conducted through Skype.
The entrance test, also known as CUCET is conducted for admission in MAJMC programmes of 15 central universities, four state universities and one NIT. The offline examination is conducted for a duration of two hours. The questions asked in the test are multiple choice questions. Some of the central universities which offer MAJMC programmes are Central University of Haryana, Central University of Kashmir, Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Jammu, Central University of Punjab, Central University of South Bihar and Central University of Tamil Nadu.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University offers admission in the Master in Mass Communication programme offered by University School of Mass Communication, one of the government institutes. The university conducts a computer based entrance test for a duration of three hours. IPU CET question paper consists of 150 questions. The question paper consists of questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology based on class 11th and 12th standards.
