The academic aspect of Nautical Science at AMET (Academy of Maritime Education and Training) in Chennai involves comprehensive programs like the 3-year B.Sc. in Nautical Science, focusing on core subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Math, English) with rigorous training for deck officers, covering navigation, ship operations, and leading to careers as Deck Cadets or Navigation Officers, emphasizing practical skills, industry exposure (like Maersk), and research in maritime fields. B.Sc. Nautical Science: A 3-year residential program requiring 12th standard with PCM and English, focusing on sea-going professions, AMET University.
AMET's Nautical Science program boasts strong placements, with estimates ranging from 50-70% to potentially higher, placing cadets in top global shipping companies like Maersk, Chevron, and NYK. While specific yearly percentages vary, students consistently secure roles as Deck Cadets with stipends starting around (₹30k-₹40k INR), leading to promising careers as officers. AMET actively collaborates with major recruiters like Wallem for cadet recruitment, ensuring good industry access.
AMET's B.Sc. Nautical Science fee structure for the 3-year program varies, but generally, the total cost can range from around ₹12.6 Lakhs to ₹17 Lakhs, covering tuition, hostel, caution deposits, and other fees, with sponsorship options potentially reducing out-of-pocket expenses. For the 2024-2027 batch, the first year alone was around ₹4 Lakhs, with subsequent years subject to revision, but expect significant costs for this specialized, residential course.
Campus life at AMET for Nautical Science is a disciplined yet active experience, focusing heavily on practical maritime training with excellent facilities like simulators and training ships, complemented by sports, social life, decent hostels (though rooms are small), and supportive, experienced faculty, creating a unique blend of academic rigor and cadet development in a scenic coastal location.

AMET provides a rich maritime environment and strong infrastructure, potentially offering excellent returns for driven students who secure top placements. However, the significant investment needs careful consideration against the reality that not all students might achieve high-end placements, making it a potentially high-risk.

I am studying Graduate marine engineering. After B.tech in mechanical engineering i decided to develop my career in Merchant Navy,so G.M.E. is only way to do that. Teaching quality is good with qualified faculty.
Many MNCs reached campus for placements. Mainly for B.E. MARINE ENGINEERING AND B.Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE companies are coming continuous with 70 -80% fo placements. Salary packages are varries according to companies.
My course cost 3.5lakh (approximately) per year . As of now value of money can't be define by me , it can be reacheble once i get into the market only then according to job i will get i can decide value of money.
Campus life good. Reasonable environment is there for students.Staffs are friendly ,ready to help u . location is outside the city but having facilities to handle emergencies and it is safe for all students .
My experiences is that for B.E. MARINE ENGINEERING AND B.Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE students can reach this institute. They are providing reasonable placements for them. You can check past performance. They are good in that.
