About IMU CET 2020

Indian Maritime University (IMU) offers admission in various courses through the Common Entrance Test (CET). The application form for IMU CET for the academic session 2020-21 will be available tentatively from the first week of April in online mode only. Admission to B.Tech, M.Tech, and MBA programmes, among others, offered by IMU and affiliated institutes is through the IMU CET 2020.  The exam will have separate entrance papers for the various programmes. IMU CET 2020 entrance exams for these programmes will be conducted in a single shift simultaneously at 36 cities across India tentatively in the first week of June. The duration of IMU CET 2020 will be 3 hours and included objective type questions. IMU CET 2020 question paper for B.Tech included 150 questions from physics, chemistry, mathematics, english and also general aptitude. The syllabus will be based on the 10+2 level. MBA and M.Tech papers, meanwhile, had 120 questions, while the syllabi for the papers will be set differently. Hall tickets will be available tentatively from the third week of May. Post-exam, results will be released by IMU tentatively in the first week of June 6. The validity of IMU CET 2020 will be for the current academic session only.

Please note to participate in online counselling held for admission to IMU campuses, candidates must be listed in the merit list published for the purpose. Or else, the IMU CET 2020 qualified candidate will not be eligible to participate in the counselling session. Such candidates though can apply directly to affiliated institutes for admission. The first, second, third and fourth list of admission will be released for various UG programs by the university.

IMU CET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

IMU CET B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for admission to different courses through IMU CET 2020 are expected to meet the eligibility criteria prescribed for the course, or else the candidate will not be considered for admission. It is also worth noting that the eligibility criteria would vary depending on whether the candidate is applying for B.Tech, M.Tech or MBA programme. Among important eligibility criteria that candidates applying for B.Tech programme need to meet include that of age limit, qualifying exam passed and minimum marks.

IMU CET Eligibility Criteria 2020 for B.Tech programmes

1Age Limit

The candidates should be minimum 17 years and maximum 25 years of age as on August 1, 2020. 

5 year age relaxation applies to SC/ST candidates.


Academic Qualifications

The candidate should score minimum 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2 or equivalent exam. Additionally, minimum 50% marks in English is also mandatory.

5% relaxation applies to For SC/ST category candidates. However, no relaxation applies to English marks.

3Medical Fitness

B.Tech Marine Engineering

All candidates applying to this programme need to clear fitness as mandated by DG Shipping Guidelines.

A medical certificate issued by doctors who are approved by Director General of Shipping has to be produced by the candidates applying for Marine Engineering.

B.Tech Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (and also B.Sc Ship Building & Repair)

Physical fitness certificate from registered medical practitioner has to submitted.

4Eye Sight

B.Tech Marine Engineering (and also DNS courses leading to B.Sc Applied Nautical Science, B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Sc Maritime Science) 

Candidates mustn’t have any degree of squint or any morbid eye (or eyelid) condition. The candidate must have good binocular vision, the movement of the balls should be full in all directions, while the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

Distance vision (unaided 0.5 (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (6/9) in better eye and 0.33 (6/18) in other eye. 

Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.

IMU CET M.B.A Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to MBA courses need to fulfil the following eligibility condition:

1Academic Qualifications

The candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum 50% marks. A minimum of 50% marks in 10/10+2/UG degree is also required.

SC and ST candidates are eligible for 5% relaxation in degree marks.

IMU CET M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility criteria that candidates seeking admission to M.Tech courses are required to meet:

The candidate must be graduate Mechanical/ Civil/ Marine /Naval Architecture or equivalent with minimum 60% marks in aggregate.

SC and ST candidates are eligible for 5% relaxation in minimum marks.

2Medical Fitness

All qualified candidates have to submit Physical

Fitness Certificate issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner.

The application form of IMU CET 2020 will be available in online mode tentatively from the first week of April to the first week of May. Before proceeding to fill the form, the candidates will have to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria of the programme they will be applying to; or else the application form can be rejected. Also, only correct and verifiable data has to be used for filling the IMU CET 2020 application form. The step-by-step process to fill the application form is described below:

How to fill IMU CET Application Form 2020

  • Registration – The application filling process will start with registration, wherein the candidate will have to register their name, phone number and email; the last two items will be used by the Institute for communicating with the candidate. 
  • Filling of application form - Upon successful registration, the candidate will have to next fill the application form, which will have sections like personal, academic and contact details.
  • Uploading of documents – The candidate will have to next upload scanned images of photograph and signature, and also other documents like Class X Mark sheet as proof of date of birth, Class XII/ degree certificate (whichever applicable), and category certificate. The uploaded documents in the prescribed format only.
  • Payment of application fee – The application fee has to be paid in online mode.
  • Submission of application form – The candidate will have to finally check that the application form is complete in all respects before submitting it.

The exam pattern of IMU CET 2019 for MBA programme will be different from other programmes, starting with syllabus and also in some other aspects like total number of questions asked. An important document that is required to sit in the exam, the admit card will also be required to complete other admission formalities. So the candidate mustn’t lose or damage it.

Exam authorities will declare the result of IMU CET 2020 tentatively in the first week of June. IMU CET 2020 results will be determined separately for each of the CET exams. In case of B.Tech candidates, the result will be prepared based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the computer-based exam for the course, which includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and also English and General Aptitude. 

Only those candidates who qualify in the exam will be short-listed for online counselling.

Mode of Counselling: Online

Indian Maritime University conducts the Counselling in online mode for seat allotment to various courses offered by its six campuses. Affiliated Institutes, however, will not be a part of this online counselling process, as they will have their own separate counselling. Consequently, IMU CET 2020 qualified candidates will have to apply directly to these institutes for admission. 

The registration process for participation in online counselling will be available tentatively from the second week of June for short-listed candidates only. Candidates can check their eligibility for IMU CET 2020 online counselling by consulting the rank lists published by exam authorities.  The first round seat allotment result will be published tentatively in the fourth week of June.

The counselling process includes steps like seat allotment and document verification. During document verification, the candidate will have to submit originals of all relevant documents, including mark sheet and certificates. Only those candidates who successfully complete the document verification will be considered for admission. 

There will be likely four IMU CET 2020 counselling and seat allotment rounds. Candidates who are allotted a seat in each of these rounds will have to pay the programme fee within the given deadline to confirm their seats.

  • Counselling registration fee: Short-listed candidates will have to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 10,000 to participate in online counselling. 
  • Admission fee: Any candidate who is allotted a seat in any of the seat allotment rounds will have to pay a non-refundable sum of Rs. 25,000 towards programme fee as per the given schedule.

Every year around 1 to 1.5 lakh studwnt give thsi exam and approx 16,000 student qualify this exam. So if you want to get admission in top. Imu you have to be under 1000 rank for general category and under 1500 for obc and other category.

Right after filling up the form and untill the day of exam you will keep finding only if you keep searching on internet, there is not even a single book available on the internet and i really mean it, not even a single book on internet, some consultantancy services provide you with a collection of previous year question papers of NDA, that’s it.

So how to prepare for IMU CET?

best answer is that you pick up a good english book that includes topics verbs, noun,pronoun,synonyms antonyms and for physics and chemistry study NCERT with some reference book. you actually don't need to buy any seprate book for this exam just study the books you had while preparing for class 12 boards that would be more than sufficient.
