    Diploma in Aeronautics at IIT Madras is a one-year programme of the BS Degree in Aeronautics and Space Technology. Learners who complete all the courses and labs in the Foundation level can enrol in the Diploma level and can exit with a Diploma degree or continue to the degree level. The IIT Madras Diploma in Aeronautics focuses on foundational knowledge in mechanics and thermodynamics. 

    Diploma in Aeronautics at IIT Madras also covers essential core concepts and basic analytical tools used in aerospace engineering. Students can complete the Diploma in Aeronautics within a minimum of four terms to a maximum of twelve terms.     Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for Diploma in Aeronautics, candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics. Candidates cannot directly be eligible to apply for Diploma in Aeronautics. They have to complete all Foundation level courses of the BS Degree in Aeronautics and Space Technology to enrol in a Diploma in Aeronautics.

    Admission to IIT Madras Diploma in Aeronautics is made after completing all the Foundation level courses of the BS Degree in Aeronautics and Space Technology. Students cannot directly apply for the Diploma level. The admission process follows paths:

    • Regular Entry, where applicants have to complete a 4-week Qualifier Process and pass the Qualifier Exam.

    • JEE-Based Entry, where candidates who qualified for the current year’s JEE Advanced can directly register for Foundation Level courses.

    Evaluation Process

    IIT Madras conducts three types of assessments for each course of the BS Aeronautics and Space Technology programme: Online weekly assignments, monthly in-person quizzes, and in-person end-term exams. The term-end exams are conducted in-person at designated centres across India. Check the list of exam centres.

    Students have to pass all the courses and labs in the Foundation and Diploma levels with an overall CGPA >=6.0 and a CGPA >=7.0 for the projects to proceed to earn a Diploma degree in Aeronautics. Students can either exit with a Diploma degree or proceed to the Degree level of the programme. Learners who do not meet these CGPA requirements at the end of the Diploma level will not be allowed to continue to the degree level.
