The Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University. was established. in 1964. The renowned Prof. Gopinath Bhattacharya had been the first Head of the Department of Philosophy and under his guidance, the best scholars of the country were recruited as the faculty members of the department. As a result, from the very beginning, this department has flourished.
The Department has introduced an innovative syllabus, with equal emphasis on the Indian and Western branches of Philosophy. Such a syllabus along with the adoption of new methods of teaching marked a wide departure from the practices of other universities.
Eligibility Criteria
A person, who have passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, shall be eligible for the course.
Admission Details
Admission to undergraduate programs in the FET is through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, conducted by an independent body, followed by counseling.

College Infrastructure
You have hundreds of complaints about the university but inspite of all,this is worth it. Some Faculties are just in name teachers, but some are brilliant. Campus is awesome. Freedom and accountability go hand in hand.
