The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, which was earlier known as "Bengal Engineering College", owes its genesis to a college that was established during the nineteenth century with the name of “Civil Engineering College” on 24th of November 1856 in the premises of Writers Building, Calcutta. The IIEST College is known for its national importance as a rich source of history to India since its formation in 1856. The college was established as a civil engineering college, but later through the recommendations of the ‘Mukherjee Committee,’ a range of different courses were introduced subsequently such as electrical engineering in 1935-36, mechanical engineering in 1880 among others which were later added leading to IIEST ultimately shifting its location in 1880 to Shibpur, Howrah where it exists today. The college was renamed in 2014 as The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology after being taken over by the Government of India through an act of Parliament.
IIEST, Shibpur is the third established engineering college of India, but according to its graduation year, it is considered as the second oldest engineering institute of India and secured its position as the first Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in the year 2014. The institute has secured the ninth rank in the Architecture category and twenty-seventh in the Engineering category in NIRF 2021 Ranking. The institute ranks 46th in the NIRF overall category, 2021. In NIRF 2021 ranking, the institute has secured the 48th position in the research category. The college, due to its rich history, has a big family consisting of 8 schools and 16 departments with a total of 250 teaching staff and over 4000 students under its shadow. The institute provides both undergraduate and postgraduate courses for students.
The full form of IIEST Shibpur is the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. It is located in Shibpur, Howrah.
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur is situated in Howrah, just opposite the Hoogly River in the city of Kolkata. It attracts students from over places due to its campus being located in a surreal environment adjacent to the A.J.C. Bose Indian Botanic Garden providing a suitable and peaceful environment for students of the institute. The campus of IIEST is located 20 minutes away from the main city and is connected to other parts of the country through Airlines, roadways and railways. IIEST campus is well-connected to different means of travelling. It is 5 km away from the Howrah Railway station and a drive of about 20 minutes, and about 90 minutes drive from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport connecting almost all the cities to Kolkata through domestic and international flights.

3. Canteen, Eateries and Food Court – The campus contains a lot for food lovers and enthusiasts. The campus provides a variety of drinks and food such as Café Coffee Day and Nestle that serves coffee along with other munchies, a ladies canteen that serves meals for girls on both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus, a Mother Dairy ice cream parlor, a separate Faculty canteen, another nest-in café that serves munchies along with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu, students canteen beside the student shop and provides all the necessary stationery items required by students, and also a separate guest canteen of people staying in the guest house.
4. Medical facilities – The institute is known for the various facilities that it provides one of which is the medical facilities. The college has a hospital that serves the students and inmates of college through trained medical officers and staff and provides a 24/7 ambulance facility for any emergency. The option of outdoor treatment is available as well except for Saturday and Sunday, as the serious cases are often transferred to other hospitals in the town having tie-ups and collaborations. The hospital also has a special ID Ward for segregating the students or staff suffering from communicable diseases to ensure the safety of others. The college has tie-ups and collaborations with various hospitals of the city including Sanjiban Hospital, Narayana Super/Multispeciality Hospitals, Peerless Hospital, AMRI Hospitals (including all branches in Kolkata), BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Medica Superspeciality Hospital, and BB Eye Foundation.
5. Varied Sports Grounds and Facilities – The institute has a variety of facilities for different types of sports and has a family of over 2000 athletic enthusiasts. One of the main grounds of the institute is Lord’s ground which is open to all kinds of games, including night tournaments and serves as the venue for Convocation Ceremony and REBECA (college fest). The college also has other grounds such as Oval ground, used for Inter and Intra-collegiate cricket and football tournaments, basketball court, swimming pool for swimming and water polo, table tennis, chess, well-developed gymnasium, volleyball court, badminton, tug of war and much more. The college promotes the athletic growth of students and organizes various tournaments, especially cricket and football.
6. Promotion of Entrepreneurship activities – The college has collaborated with Tagore Centre for Green Technology Business Incubation (TCGTBI) which is a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and is a brooder of future entrepreneurs by promoting various innovations and converting them into actual devices or help for the society. The TCGTBI provides physical, technical and networking support to young entrepreneurs of college and promotes their innovations for the use of society.
7. Computer labs – The institute, at present, contains two computer labs called Laboratory-I and Laboratory-II containing 30 computers each that are connected to a central server LAN for faster operation and working for students, faculty members and staff. The actual computer lab is under renovation process and will provide advanced and wider facilities once completed. The institute also offers short-term courses for programming to students.
8. Guest House – The institute also contains a guest house for providing accommodations to guests, student’s parents/legal guardian for better convenience and contains 10 double bed A.C. rooms and 2 single bed A.C. rooms with other facilities.

If you were to take my opinion then i would surely choose bit mesra because iiest shibpur is known for its ug b.tech or m.tech course . It's not known for finance.
Whereas Bit mesra bba/mba course is also renowned and is considered to be good in terms of placements ,value for money, academics and a few more.
So, my final advice for you is to choose bit mesra over iiest shibpur.
