Good campus life, unhelpful administration

Debodirno Chandra

Batch of 2017 | B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
The infrastructure looks good to the eye but most of the buildings are not used for academic purposes and most of the hostels have not been allotted to the students, which will help them stay in a relaxed manner. The placement is good no doubt for non-core branches, but for core branches it is the same as all the other colleges across India. The administration is the worst that can be seen anywhere. They are unhelpful and would do anything to waste your time. The faculty is good, although do not cater to individual needs. Hostel life here is incomparable. Facilities are good too. And the college campus is big enough with adequate facilities.

College life is very good.Facaulty is not of the standard of a well known nit.Seniors are pretty helping.Hostel and campus infrastructure is pretty old and outdated.Placements are very good every year.A lot of fests are organized every year.To be honest seniors are more concerned about us than the administration itself.Mess food is very bad.

College campus is large and clean. Many opportunities for extracurricular activities. Hostels are maintained but can be made better. Academically good. Teachers are helpful and qualified. However one has to rely on self studying. Hostel food is very bad. College is affordable and also has many scholarship opportunities. It has a good exposure and placements are also commendable.

National institute of technology is government funded college which takes admission through Jee Mains It is an above average college. The placement stats for CSE and IT are very good and increasing every year but for other branches the placement record is not so good

I think that the industrial connect can be made stronger and the 1st year faculties provided can be improved because the departmental faculties are nice but the phD scholars are absolutely not convincing. The placement is good in the CSE and IT departments. the mechanical branch is also a preferred choice out here.

If I get a good rank in JEE mains and selected in NIT after counselling, then how much total fees I have to pay (approx)?

Anupam Kumar Student Expert 18th Oct, 2019

Hey there

The fee structure of the NITs is set by the MHRD in consultation with the NIT Council. But tuition fees is same for all nits which is Rs. 62, 500 per annum. But other fees such as Institute fees, lab, laboratory fees may vary.

Check detailed fees structure of nits

How is mechanical engineering at nit dgp?

Shubham Kumar Gupta 23rd Aug, 2019
Hello Pratik, Greetings!
First of all, NIT Durgapur is among top NITs of the country, so it has very good infrastructure as well as academic structure.
As far as mechanical engineering branch is concerned, it is known to be a evergreen branch. The college has all the required laboratories and faculties for the branch.
The placements although are not excellent but very good keeping the current scenario of mechanical engineering in mind.
Faculties are average but helpful if you are interested in research work.
So if you are interested in mechanical engineering, it will be a good college.
Thank you, best of luck.

How is mechanical engineering at nit dgp in comparison to other branches present there?

Athira James Student Expert 22nd Aug, 2019

Hi Pratik

Mechanical Engineering from NIT Durgapur is a good option to go for. The infrastructure and facilities like labs and machines for the students is pretty good. Placements are also good. Faculty is satisfactory. Usually, students are happy with the course and college. Considering better branches, your interest matters supreme here. If you like Mechanical, go for it. CSE is however the most desired branch in most engineering colleges due to maximum scope.

All the best!

I took admission in NIT Durgapur cse.But I may get IT in JU .I couldnt make my decision. Can you suggest a right opinion in this matter?

Shubham Kumar Gupta 11th Aug, 2019
Hi Shibashis,

First of all congratulations on getting admission.

Let me tell you that both NIT Durgapur and Jadavpur University are top grade colleges. Also, there is not much difference between IT and CSE. NIT Durgapur has advantage of being government institute while JU has higher placements. Fees is also a factor since JU is a private university. CSE is also preferred over IT by some companies.
If I were you, I would have taken CSE in NIT Durgapur.

So, I would suggest you to join any of the two colleges which are of your convenience.

Thank you, best of luck.

Which stream is better? Nit durgapur mechanical or jadavpur university it?

Athira James Student Expert 5th Aug, 2019

Hi Sonali,

This depends on your interest in the course first of all as both are among the reputed colleges. Though NIT is a tag in itself, Jadavpur University is actually better even in rankings and placements. Moreover IT stream has more scope than Mechanical anyway since you have opportunities in the countless software companies in the world.

All the best!
