Good campus life, unhelpful administration

Batch of 2017 | B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
The infrastructure looks good to the eye but most of the buildings are not used for academic purposes and most of the hostels have not been allotted to the students, which will help them stay in a relaxed manner. The placement is good no doubt for non-core branches, but for core branches it is the same as all the other colleges across India. The administration is the worst that can be seen anywhere. They are unhelpful and would do anything to waste your time. The faculty is good, although do not cater to individual needs. Hostel life here is incomparable. Facilities are good too. And the college campus is big enough with adequate facilities.

College life is very good.Facaulty is not of the standard of a well known nit.Seniors are pretty helping.Hostel and campus infrastructure is pretty old and outdated.Placements are very good every year.A lot of fests are organized every year.To be honest seniors are more concerned about us than the administration itself.Mess food is very bad.

College campus is large and clean. Many opportunities for extracurricular activities. Hostels are maintained but can be made better. Academically good. Teachers are helpful and qualified. However one has to rely on self studying. Hostel food is very bad. College is affordable and also has many scholarship opportunities. It has a good exposure and placements are also commendable.

National institute of technology is government funded college which takes admission through Jee Mains It is an above average college. The placement stats for CSE and IT are very good and increasing every year but for other branches the placement record is not so good

I think that the industrial connect can be made stronger and the 1st year faculties provided can be improved because the departmental faculties are nice but the phD scholars are absolutely not convincing. The placement is good in the CSE and IT departments. the mechanical branch is also a preferred choice out here.

Infrastructure is not bad at all. COLLEGE has tie up with CERN for student internships . College also provide good industry exposure. It has good placement records with over 80 companies visiting the campus. There are too many clubs here for student exposure to the world.

NIT Durgapur - Not one of those cliched colleges

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
Well, how do I start? NIT Durgapur. A college? Well, technically but not really. Its rather a way of life. Not one of those colleges with a lot of admirers and students eyeing. What i mean is you need to live this experience to know. Expectations of a student: It is an NIT. It's got to be good. Its a central government funded institution after all. Reality: Infrastructure, Faculty, Course, Food may disappoint you. Don't be surprised. Its actually the proverbial "hostel ka khana". In terms of infrastructure, faculty, course, hostel and other facilities, i would say it is alright, nothing great about them. What happens is a series of disappointing situations may give you the impression that it was a wrong choice at first. But what do you do? You wait. You wait for things to get better. They don't but you start liking it this way. You get to meet a lot of people here. What is special about this college in contrast to other WB colleges is the diversity of people coming from across India which makes it one hell of a ride. You make friends and when your freshmen year approaches its culmination, you realize it wasn't that bad after all. Once you start liking this place, it doesn't matter anymore. Plus Points: Diverse Student Crowd Superb Alumni Good Placement Make good friends. Negative points won't bother you. Opportunity to excel if you know what you're doing. Helpful Seniors. Hostel Life. Negative Points: Faculty. If you think that teachers really teach here, maybe 1 in a hundred. Infrastructure (It's a lot better than what was a year or two ago) Place. Durgapur isn't that happening. Not many places. However, I am sure 90% of NITD students feel the same way. It's alright and if you know what you are doing, this place has a lot to offer.

Great Life, Remember-able Moments,

Prince MKV

Let me compare "NIT" Durgapur or any other NIT with a 'good private' college Placement: Studying in a NIT increases your chances of getting placed in companies better than TCS and when you jump from your first company to another, your college tag will add to your profile. Infrastructure: Government colleges may not have best infrastructure facilities compared to private colleges, but it should not bother much if you are hard working and your goal is to get the best possible job. Internship: Again, your college tag will surely come into effect when seeking internships. No doubt about that. Companies will any day prefer NITians over private college students (if not BITS) as companies think students in NITs and IITs are more serious and dedicated. Faculty: In every college, some of the professors will be very good, some you will hate, and some will be not so good. But if you have good relations with teachers, they might help you get training/internships in other better colleges. No doubt, faculties in NITs will have a better network with faculties of IITs compared to the faculty of some good private college. So better chances of getting internships in IITs if you are an NITian. I would also like to add one more very important point of comparison, your batch mates. Any day, you will get more serious, studious, hard-working and intelligent batch mates in NITs and trust me, in engineering (particularly in CS/IT), how do you prepare yourself outside your classroom matters a lot. Hope this will help anyone with a similar confusion.

The tag value means to all students, good platform for education, rules n regulation isn't the strong . The college provides a good platform or M.tech n Ph.D. students, faculty are helpful but college authorities don't maintain a regularity of regulations . Poor connectivity of bus n autos , too fearful to stay at night and the mess food isn't up to mark I am a student pursuing Mtech in biotechnology, and the department provides a good platform for research and higher education ( no placement as such.

Immaculate hostel facilities within affordable budget, strong alumni, stimulating peers and respected faculty-all rolled into one of the most revered colleges of eastern India. Ranked consistently within top 20 engineering schools, one can expect an enviable return on investment.Research opportunities are manifold and is an infrastructural haven with state-of-art hostels, sporting facilities and the one-of-a kind HV lab. I invested 4 years of my life here. And if given a chance,I would happily do it all over again.

An Excellent college to be a part of if you want to pursue your career in Engineering. Starting from the good infrastructure to good faculty, a mix of different types of students coming from all across India gives you a platform to learn and grow as a person. Being an autonomous college, the course outline is pretty different and advanced from any other college, which helps to learn better than others. The placements are as par with the best NIT's

Metallurgy is better than Biotech

Batch of 2011 | B.Tech Biotechnology Engineering
Keep your preference high for Metallurgy than Biotech because Biotech is a very new branch of this college. Metallurgy is good because there is Durgapur steel plant, alloy steel plant nearby. Coalfield is also there.Because of the location of Durgapur Metallurgy, Mechanical ,EE is relatively better option than other courses.

It's a college where you can have fun but profs will keep you under intense pressure. Here profs are actually given the status of Gods. profs are not very friendly but seniors help you a lot. IT and CS have exceptional placement. The Civil department lacks in placement and other departments are fine.

Durgapur, which is known as Steel City, is the second biggest city in West Bengal after Kolkata. Well connected by Rail and Road, the campus is quite urban, thanks to its excellent location in the heart of Durgapur. The library is excellent – about a lakh volumes and ever-increasing. The Students in their respective hostels have LAN access, but while in the departments, there is access to WiFi as well.

Best college

Batch of 2010 | B.Tech Electrical Engineering
NIT Durgapur is one of only a handful of institutes in India to boast of a ‘high voltage laboratory’, and this one is the best of its kind. The library, most of the labs, and all the computer centres are air-conditioned. They have 10 hostels here, seven for boys (with another one coming up) and three for girls. The new hostels, of course, have much better facilities, but the old hostels are definitely more popular. Each hostel has a mess and a common room. Final year students normally have a room to themselves, while second and third-year students share their rooms with two or three other students. First years are put up in massive halls and are kept regular tabs on.

The beautiful essence of West Bengal's culture is experienced as soon as we walk past the entry gates of NIT Durgapur. The infrastructure and the teaching faculty is really good. The music club and the classical dance styles taught are elegant. The placements offered by the college are pretty decent and it is a good college to pursue Computer science and engineering.

The college is quite good

Batch of 2018 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
The college is quite good but it a lacks proper infrastructure. We must be provided industrial visits more often..also, placement package is not that high and major industrial firms recruit very fewer people. Development is still in progress in the case of infrastructure. Few hostels are good while few are still in the pathetic condition which exists since 1960! The renovation is necessary. Education is quite a good but I guess the interaction and friendly teaching must be provided.

Infrastructure is not good. Hostels are very old and are in very poor condition. One room is allotted for four students except final year students. Mess food is very bad, you can save your health by eating in canteens inside the campus. The quality of education should be better. There are not enough classes for IT & ECE students. sufficient lab equipment is not available. The condition of the medical unit is also bad. There are not sufficient doctors & available doctors are part-timers. On the other hand, student placement condition is quite good. On the other hand, placement condition is quite good. Companies like Microsoft, amazon, Snapdeal, Drishtisoft, Maruti Suzuki, Tata motors are visiting from a very long time. cultural and technical festivals are conducted throughout the year so one can spend a very good student life. AAROHAN-the annual techno-management fest of NIT Durgapur is the second largest fest in eastern India. there are various clubs to take care of culture, art, environment, technology, extracurricular skills.

Batch of 2019 | B.Tech Information Technology
The infrastructure of NIT Durgapur is not so good, as the buildings are old and are not renovated for years. The campus area is not used judiciously. The is a lot of areas inside the campus that are still left unused. The hostels are not painted and there are black patches everywhere. The hostel rooms are are too small to accommodate 4 persons in it. Fests are pretty good. Renowned personalities visit here during the fests. The faculty is good. Placements are very good for non-core and pretty good for core branches. Almost all sport is available with coaches here. There is a Medical Unit (MU) too, but the facility is not that great. But still I would recommend this college because if a student aspires a job in some big companies (which visits here every year) and is sincere throughout he can do well. No matter what the college is.

The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, is one of the most popular NITs. Founded in 1960, it celebrated its fiftieth year of existence in 2010 and has consistently had a history of producing excellent students. It is one of the leading institutes of national importance, which explains why it has such an important place in the heart of every West Bengal resident.

Not as great as the name suggest

In terms of infrastructure, this will be the college you would like to stay away. Torn apart departmental buildings, broken hostels, poor lab, incapable faculty you name it and we have it. But if you really want to enjoy your college life and learn what life is then this college is the one you should Sought after. It should be rather named as National Institute Of Fun and Merriment. Well even if you do nothing you will still manage to get a decent job( which will, of course, pay more package than any other private institution can guarantee). Well, this college proves a very wide known phrase " Don't judge a book by its cover". Well please stick to that.

National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (NIT Durgapur), formerly the Regional Engineering College (REC), Durgapur, is a technological university of the government of India offering quality and premier knowledge in field of Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering , Civil , Electronics , Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering along with other fields like Biotechnology, Management, Humanities and Mathematics. It is one of the college of national importance. It is the first institute in Eastern India to be selected as a Lead Institute under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of the government of India funded by the World Bank. There are many programmes and projects regarding research , CMERI is infront to the college which also a great advantage to it . Though college does not have good infrastructure like many other but within some year it will improve to its best . Faculties are good maximum having PHD degrees from renowned colleges plus some industrial experiences . Hostels are like all other hostels of any government college so nothing to be compared of. College life is at its best some good fests like Arrohan( technical fest) , Ank , Enteract , Recstacy (cultural fest) plus good sports culture . Placements depends on which branch you are in if you are CS , IT guy then good , if ME ,EE ,ECE then average , and others you can say lower than average .
