College Infrastructure
My college provides all the necessary facilities regarding our studies. All the required equipments are there in our laboratories. The class rooms are also well maintained, and well designed. The corridor spaces are also remains clean maximum time.
Academics
I m obtaining the degree of bachelor of technology on metallurgy and material science engineering. All the facilities are very helpful and motivates us always. We are having a well organised routine to follow.where there is we are having theory classes as well as laboratory practicals. Class tests are taken regularly, that is the best part for preparing for exams .We are also provided regular class assignment.
Placements
The quality of placement is really very well, almost 85% of the students are placed with a good salary package. The placement process is very student friendly, and also easy. And the college is too supportive in the process of placement and in other works.
Value-for-money
Yes this college is having a student friendly policy about semester fees.I need to pay 26k per semester. And it is really value for money.i feel it is not being wasted anyhow.this type of infrastructure is worthy for this ammount.
Campus Life
The college campus is really amazing, full of green trees. The streets are well maintained and cleaned regularly. It is situated on the lap of river Ganga. The location of the college is Howrah, Shibpur,West Bengal.Besides the teaching faculties the non-teaching staffs are also very helpful. The capmus is too much safe for everyone. They are having all the security measures required in college. In case of any health emergency or any other emergencies college authorities take quick action accordingly.

College Infrastructure
College infrastructure is pretty poor, specially the boys hostels. I wonder there will come a time when the hostels will fall upon us. The hostels are not really worth living in, very unhygienic with dogs littering all around the hostels.
Academics
I am studying Mechanical Engineering because I have an interest on the subject. However, our curriculum is not updated according to the present requirements of the industry. Many of the softwares are not taught in college and we are asked to learn it from somewhere else.
Placements
Placements are pretty decent with CST, IT, ETC, MIN getting around 80% to 100% placement. However, The core departments like Mechanical, Electrical have around 70% to 75% placements. Civil has even less, around 60%. Metallurgy and Aerospace varies from year to year. This year the highest salary was offered by Microsoft of 36 lpa.
Value-for-money
For a person without any quota, it costs around 1.8 lakhs per year. Considering the infrastructure and technological developments of the college, I feel it is not a great value for money. Nevertheless, the placements are decent.

College Infrastructure
IIEST, Shibpur boasts of its large alumni base and rich history. It is the second oldest college of engineering in our country. It's a lush green campus that will make anyone love the campus. But along with all this, there are a lot of loopholes there in the college. The college lacks modern amenities a bit. It lacks the modern classroom facilities. I'm not saying, that IIEST, Shibpur doesn't have modern amenities but still, it's in limited quantity. Living areas are quite spacious but not tidy.
Academics
There is not a single doubt when it comes to the academic section of the institute. This institute is basically for those students, who want to pursue research as a career option and also for learning enthusiasts. The institute has highly qualified professors and staff working day and night for the student's welfare. Along, with that IIEST, Shibpur also serves the nation by doing excessive and consistent research.
Placements
The placement scenario is average because most of the students prefer to choose higher studies or research lines. Most of the students from core departments successfully clear the GATE examination. So, most of the students are placed in the government sector rather than the private sector.
Value-for-money
₹71,000(₹3,000-one time, refundable) is the institute fee and ₹29,500(₹1,000-one time, refundable) is the hostel fee. So, let me tell you something regarding the WiFi facility and food quality as well. Food quality is average it'll not going to satisfy your taste buds. WiFi offers speed of 200mbps or sometimes 1mbps too. You'll feel that you're not getting that much for which you're paying for, at last, it's not that worthy regarding the facility.
Campus Life
IIEST, Shibpur, is a renowned college with the NIRF rank 19. The professors are highly qualified. The campus is lush green. There is a large library also, the institute hall is the place where most of the workshops or events take place. Campus life is very good. Technical fests, as well as, departmental fests, also take place with this, there is the annual function. Basically, IIEST, Shibpur offers a balanced lifestyle with some sense of diversity.
Anything Else
At last, I'd like to say, that, IIEST, Shibpur, is one of the best NIT and research institute that will offer you a great lifestyle, great opportunity, great academics and last but not the least, it'll boost your personality and career as well. Since it has a large alumni base, so, you'll have a great chance to succeed in any form. That's all!!! Good Luck!!!

College Infrastructure
Being 163 years old, the institute is still under development of infrastructure. The lab facilities are average. however, I think the engineering departments have well furnished laboratories. The library is good. Hostels, department buildings and library has free wifi. I am not sure about boy's hostel but girls hostel are well furnished and regular hygiene is maintained.
Academics
I am pursuing M.Sc in Chemistry. The classes are regular in our department. Professors here are quite co-operative and supportive. They're always ready to help you with any trouble. As far as being job-ready is concerned, since M.Sc is not a professional course, students here are primarily told to work for clearance of NET and GATE and focus on their research career rather than jobs.
Placements
To my knowledge, placements are offered to the engineering students but chances for M.Sc students are almost negligible. If you've cleared JAM and want a job right after your masters and do not want to go for Ph.d then coming here would not be the right choice.
Value-for-money
Academic fees is 19,500 per semester for OBC/GEN M.Sc students. And most probably 7000-8000 for SC/ST. Hostel and mess fees is 25,500 per semester. Considering the regularity of classes and labs, yes the money is worth. And mess food is sometimes good sometimes bad. But you've the right to complain in case of any issues with mess food.
Campus Life
College campus is a treat to the eyes for nature lover. However, some parts are not properly maintained and students often prefer not to go around those areas covered with thick bushes. Regarding the activities, students can enroll for gym, basketball, swimming, dance and music.

College Infrastructure
The classrooms are equipped with proper sound system so that students can hear the professors, even from the last benches. Rooms are spacious with proper ventilations. Laboratories are equipped with the latest equipments and have friendly lab assistants. Well-equipped library, modern basketball court, swimming pool and two large playgrounds. Though I am a day-scholar, my friends say that mess food is edible and the menu is ever changing. Also there are four on-campus canteens to fill our tummy.
Academics
Presently I am a second semester student in the department of Computer Science and Technology. The lack of access to computer during my childhood has urged me to take up this stream. All the professors are highly qualified, almost all of them have a PhD degree. Tutorial guides lab assistants are equally helpful. Our curriculum is regularly updated as required. Some professors use modern tools like Google classroom. Research projects are integral part of our college.
Placements
Placements have improved a lot in the recent times, with students getting both on-campus and off-campus offers. Placement statistics have not been completely updated due to ongoing corona crisis. However, the highest till date is 42 lpa from Microsoft. Most importantly, even during these difficult times our Director Sir has assured students not to worry and that on-campus internships and industry-collaborations are being carried out.
Value-for-money
The tuition fees cost ₹62,500 per semester. However there are concessions per the rules of MHRD. Yes, when it comes to money's worth, there is none better than an institution of national importance.
Campus Life
With an area of 123 acres, the beauty and greenery of our campus never fails to amaze us. Three lakes, meditation spot, building with Gothic design and many more. Everyone is supportive here. There are many clubs where we can hone our skills. Entrepreneurship Development Cell is doing a fabulous job as well. Located in well-connected area, the students have easy access to shopping malls, restaurants, coaching centers, etc. Our campus is absolutely safe with tight security. There is a hospital.
Anything Else
A small suggestion. I have seen many students making unnecessary complaints about their college. They have to understand it is a college campus and not a five star hotel. It's high time they come out of their honeymoon period.

College Infrastructure
The college has a good infrastructure and the modern facilities. The classrooms and hostels are well equipped with advance technologies like WiFi, Smart classrooms, Projectors etc. Inside the campus there are two large playgrounds. There is a library with various collection of books from all over the world. The campus is well maintained by the college authorities. The food in the hostels is good and hygienic.
Academics
The college follows the academic curriculum according to MHRD Govt of India. I am pursuing my Btech in Mining Engineering because it is one of best department in college and the placement is also very good. The Professors are very much experienced and help us in every possible way.
Placements
The college has a very good Placement record. Almost 70-80 percent students were placed every year. The highest package goes with Computer science or Information technology branch. The college is very much supportive for the placement of the students. The median package is 6,00,000.
Value-for-money
The fees structure is same like other NITs. I am satisfied with the current fees structure of the college.
Campus Life
The college has a very beautiful campus. It is located near botanical garden. The Environment of the campus is pollution free. There is a hospital also inside the campus in case of emergency of the students. Security 24 hours present. There are many societies for extra circular activities like music, drama,Quiz etc.
Anything Else
IIEST SHIBPUR is the second oldest engineering college in India. IIEST SHIBPUR ranks 19th according to NIRF ranking 2019 among Engineering institutes.

College Infrastructure
it doesn't have very good infrastructure, but its nice and its changing. we are provided projeccter ,proper linghts, fan, ac etc. the living places are not so clean and hygienic and the food is also not good.
Academics
all professors are excellent in there work, they are well qualified and helping, specially hods who helps a lot while placement. professors are very punctual at their times but are understanding too .
Placements
placement are quite good in all the branches except aerospace, i would suggest don't go for aerospace if u don't wanna do higher studies. and about other branches the placement is good due to world wide alumni network.
Value-for-money
it is as same as any other nit. i m a general category student , so yes i feel like m paying much more than the students who have reservation but there are many who are like me so it doesn't feel much.
Campus Life
campus life is very good here. there are so many time limits about entering in the hostel, but nobody cares when u break it.but the other things are boring means its really old culture, there will not be may parties or short fest even in a month.
Anything Else
i would like to say the college is good for study and placement but, at the same time students are not changing their culture they just follow what their seniors have done from 1856 😅, which is so boring.

College Infrastructure
Good infrastructure with lot of greenery. Hostels are well prepared and have much space. Complete WiFi networks and smart boards are also available. Cleanliness is also taken care of here in the campus.
Academics
Academic is excellent . I like it so much because quality of teaching is really very good here. Faculties are very supportive to the students and overall development is the basis of academic here. Curriculum is also updated here.
Placements
Good placement records. About 70% of students are placed. Computer science, information technology and mining Engineering lead in placement graphs. Average salary is about six lakhs and highest is about forty laks per annum.
Value-for-money
Yes, fees is manageable. It is about two lakhs per year. But I think I'm getting my money's worth here in the college. As facilities are good, academic is excellent and faculties are very good. So fees is used properly.
Campus Life
Campus Life is awesome here. There are several activities in which students can spend their leisure time. More than 15 clubs are operated in the campus for the students . These clubs also help in the development of personality of the students.
Anything Else
I'm enjoying my life here in the college. I have seen some development in my personality and thinking after joining the college. It would be a lovely opportunity for a guy to come and study here. It is one of the oldest engineering institute in the country.

College Infrastructure
IIEST provides with all the necessary infrastructure. The classrooms and labs are clean, well light, and well equipped. Our library holds a huge collection of 12000+ books and dissertation papers. The campus hosts four fully functional canteens along with a CCD and a Nescafe outlet. We also have a dedicated sports centre. The hostels are decent but some of them require renovation which we are working on. Overall, IIEST provides you a good infrastructure that ensures a great learning experience.
Academics
I'm a student in the civil engineering department, but I also have friends in every other department on campus. Most of our teachers are extremely qualified and passionate about education, barring a few. They make you love the subject rather than cram needlessly. IIEST treats education as a priority and provides great exposure to a variety of projects. However the curriculum is outdated and has little relevance in the industry. Hopefully that'll change soon.
Placements
The placements have been good so far on campus. Our highest package for 2019 was 40 LPA, offered by Microsoft to three of our students, 2 of them from our Computer science and 1 of them from our IT department respectively. The average package for core branches has been around 6-7 LPA, and non-core has been around 10-12 LPA. We have an active placement cell that ensures great participation from the industry in every placement season.
Value-for-money
You can find the exact fee structure on our official website. I certainly feel it's value for money considering it charges considerably lower than other colleges of similar stature such as IITs and BITS.
Campus Life
We have an extremely vibrant campus life. We have a wide array of clubs for you to choose from, be it dancing, dramatics, writing or singing. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in a multitude of competitions and other events organised by these clubs. The campus is extremely safe with a dedicated hospital that caters to students 24*7 with a doctor always on call. The campus is located very close to the Hooghly river and is serene filled with greenery.
Anything Else
IIEST Shibpur is the second oldest technical institute in our country. It has been through quite a journey transitioning between phases of highs and lows owing to the regional political climate. But the one thing that has remained constant is its dedication towards developing professionals who'll serve the nation and make our country proud. IIEST may not be perfect but it'll provide you a home, and a platform to launch your career. I invite you to be a part of our family. Come, join us.

College Infrastructure
A big central library is here. We have a two sports grounds. We have one gymnasium and courts for badminton, volleyball and basketball. Wi-Fi is available in all the department and labs are completely equipped.
Academics
Currently pursuing B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The curriculum is updated and matches with GATE and other competitive examinations. The teachers are experienced and are experts of their respective fields.
Placements
The placement of college is excellent. Maximum of the students get placed from the on-campus recruitment. 90% of the students in my department were placed this year. This is the scenario in all the other departments.
Value-for-money
Since it is categorised as NIT and is one of the INI having rank of 19 among all the engineering colleges of India, there should be no question for the value of money. Obviously it is worth it and scholarships are also provided to the needy students.
Campus Life
The campus is full with Greenery. It is at the bank of Hooghly river and Botanical Garden is near it. The campus life is full with life and students feel very safe inside it. There is a hospital inside the campus itself to handle the emergency cases
Anything Else
If you really want to opt for IIEST Shibpur and are not getting NIT Trichi, Surathkal or Allahabad, don't think twice. The place will provide you more than just knowledge and placement. The life here will be unforgettable.

Placements : However the placement scenario of the college is good, but the placement of the department is average. Average package is 3lakhs/ annum. Students are paid a lump sum during the internship and sometime they get some pre placement offers also. Infrastructure : Regarding infrastructure, it is one of the best campuses of West Bengal with a blend of architecture and greenary. A huge central library with departmental libraries has well collection of books and journals. There are the latest technologiesogies driven computer lab for individual departments. There are several labs sponsored by government. Of India. Along with this class are well-equipped with audio visual technologies. In the recreation part two large well maintained play grounds with w swimming pool within the Campus. There is a huge auditorium along with some departmental seminar halls. There is a large number of hostel with nice accommodation. Canteen, food stalls, cafeteria, Stationary goods centre are present within the campus. As a whole it is a mini educational city within a city. Faculty : Most of the faculty members are well educated and experience with a doctorate degree. They share their immense knowledge both academics and corporate. Students can approach with their problem and they don't hesitate to solve their problem. Teachers used to focus more on practical and live experiment and provide opportunity to visit several industries and have interaction with various corporate personals. IIEST is a moderately good college with a reasonable infrastructure. But yes, a more friendly behavior from the staff is needed since a university should be "for the students". Our college campus lacks a gd library which is open for 24*7. It should have a good computer center with access to websites of good, internationally recognized journals. It should also have better playgrounds. The engineering faculty is quite OK, but certainly, more industry exposure and practical knowledge-based learning is needed. We are mainly taught every subject theoretically and we hardly know what happens in reality.Industry visits are extremely important. College life for me was not so pleasing. Though mostly I am responsible for it. But yes, the hostels should have better atmosphere, better bathrooms, indoor games. There should be cultural fests, interactive sessions with students and teachers of other universities, seminars on interesting topics. I am not particularly concerned about placement but as far as my knowledge is concerned, placement scenario is not so good. I hope it will improve in the upcoming years. College professors are good in general but yes, some of the could have taught in a better, more interesting manner but again, this is common for every college in India. Yes, recently the student intake has increased and the college has become a little moe crowded but it's ok ! In terms of mess fees, tuition fees my college is definitely affordable to a middle-class family.

Certainly lacks the facility & infrastructure of a top notch institute (refers to my dept.-archi), and heard a lot of complaints from my B.Tech friends about the placement department, which I presume is true to a large extent, although the new INI tag will be able to solve the problem, hopefully. But, students here get one hell of an experience of the hostel life, senior-junior relationship is something we learn to treasure and cherish. Add to it the fact that it is the country's second oldest insti., the long list of golden achiever alumni certainly evokes a feeling of pride, and lots of age-old colonial buildings(still functional) including a runic graveyard, !

Lot of new things to learn. Beautiful campus. Enchanting environment. Facilities are good. One will definitely learn a lot from the college. IIEST can always be a better choice for students who are interested in research and after the 4 year exit option being launched, it would be a much better college. Infrastructure is generally available but it is very old fashioned. As we have recently gained national importance, so the infrastructure is improving rapidly. The faculty members are highly qualified for all departments and they are quite helpful. Generally, the classrooms are not digitalised up till now, so the conventional way of chalk and blackboard is used. This college offers a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities in form of clubs, games, sports and many others. Internships are very rarely provided by the college.

IIEST is a culmination of more than 160 years of heritage and excellence. It has always been one of the best colleges of India thriving under the aegis of exceptional students to reward the country with high quality engineers fit to raise the country to a higher level of development. The infrastructure and awesome faculty just add to its elegance. In recent years, after becoming IIEST, the placement scenario has improved a lot. So, if you wish to spend your undergraduate years here.....it surely won't be a bad choice.

A very good place. With a pleasant campus just beside the river Gangas. Faculty is extremely good and helpful. Seniors are also helpful. Moreover we did not have to face any serious ragging. Extremely well developed laboratory. Moreover one can find every opportunity to persue his/her own passion here, beside studying.

Lot of new things to learn. Beautiful campus. Enchanting environment. Facilities are good. One will definitely learn a lot from the college. IIEST can always be a better choice for students who are interested in research and after the 4 year exit option being launched, it would be a much better college. With its enormous history of over 150 years, IIEST is a college to be chosen without a second thought.

To be frank, this college was never in my dream college list. But now it's been a semester and truly I feel those uncertain decisions of mine turned out to be one of the best ones. This college has good infrastructure, as it got an "II" tag, so placements too are progressing year by year. Most of the time in college life, we spend with friends and chilling in hostels, so when it comes to hostel life- they too are good. As an overall review can say it's worthy joining this college.

The college has a heritage of 160 years, started in 1856, second after IIT Roorkee.Campus is quite lush green and spacious with two huge stadium, basketball court, gym etc.Hostels are ok, however food is not up to the mark.Faculty is quite experienced and helpful, and seniors are quite decent. No probem regarding ragging.College have lots of groups like robotics, codec(coding) etc, musical society etc.

Nothing too special to share its just like other colleges with INI tag and a good director everything is so normal about this college. College starts from 8 AM and ends generally on 4 PM academics are moderate but there are 1 2 toooo bad teachers here who ruin the taste of great subjects rest teachers are good the core departments are better than others in terms of both placement and academics but the fee is a bit high if the standard of college is concerned student quality is moderate but far away from being one of the best colleges. the campus is very old and needs heavy renovation to look good also the college lacks big auditorium which creates much problem for big seminars to be organized the library also lacks sufficient books so there is also a rush for getting books when it is prescribed also many students get deprived of issuing the prescribed book due to lack of books so the college needs much boost in infrastructure some many private institutes have better infrastructure than this college

College Life is good if you take hostel. For day scholars like me it's pretty much boring. The seniors are good to talk with. They help in every way possible. Faculty is pretty good especially Civil and Electrical department. But I think infrastructure can improve a lot. There are lots of empty spaces in the college campus. Overall, I believe that in the coming years this can be one of the premier engineering institutions of our country.

IIEST Shibpur or erstwhile BESU was founded in the year 1856. It is the second oldest college in India and has attained great heights hence. The faculties of the engineering department are quite good however I would not say the same for the basic science and maths departments. The teachers are quite friendly with the students and a healthy bond exists. As most of the teachers live in the campus, visiting them for any doubt is not a problem. Coming to the Infrastructure of the college- it has some excellent labs in the core department. Our library also has a huge collection with ample arrangement for reading. Classrooms are also quite big and airy. However the Infrastructure is not quite upto the mark of an INI. Still much effort has been made in these 3years. Placement of this college is a bit lagging behind. However this year a huge number of companies visited. Microsoft accepted 6 students. Coal India also took 17 students. So the placements are on an increasing graph. Now coming to the college life. This place is simply a home away from home. And believe me if you are a hostelier you are surely going to love this place. Lush green campus near the Ganges. Huge playgrounds, the bidisha jheel. This is the best place for spending your evening. The senior junior relationship is also good. Ragging is almost non existent. Many clubs are active in the institute and you can surely choose your area of interest. And also to mention now you can have an EXIT after your 4th year. I am a first year student in this institution and I would surely recommend this college. And last but not the least, sooner or later you shall fall in love with this place

IIEST, Shibpur is one of the best colleges in India. The 160 years old college is rich in heritage. The campus and is very attractive, green and clean. Many famous scientists and engineers have passed from this college. The faculty members are also well qualified and experienced. There are many opportunities for extra curricular activities in the clubs of robodarshan, euphony, quiz, photography ,drama etc. There are scopes of physical fitness in the gym and swimming club. The placement records for all departments is outstanding. The hostels are also clean. Good quality of food and comfortable atmosphere for living are available in the hostel.

Well if you have missed the IITs but is still keen on fulfilling your engineering dream then this institute is one of the very few in this country which will surely help you to do so . Having got a new moniker in 2014 in which it got upgraded to an institute of national importance(which should have happened ages ago),this institute has been looking forward toward continuous improvisation and upgradation. Campus life, hostel life ,the late night walks and the arbit talks takes engineering to a different level and makes it equally interesting. With faculty being one reason for other institutes to be jealous (since we no doubt possess the some of the best professors in the country),the student quality has also improved a lot after the institute became centralised. Placement scenerio have improved a lot after upgradation in both the core and non-core departments.Believe me it might not be an IIT but you won't regret being a BEing(that's how we are known as).
