Institute of Psychiatry, Kolkata admission to M.Phil and MSc courses are offered through JEMAS (PG) and JEMScN entrance examinations conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). However, admission to Diploma in Psychiatry Nursing is offered on the basis of interviews conducted by the institute. JEMAS PG 

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent professional degree recognized by the corresponding statutory regulatory body with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (5% relaxation for reserved category students).

MSc Psychiatric Nursing 

JEMScN 

Candidates must have passed a Bachelor’s degree of 3 years duration in Psychiatric Nursing under 10+2+3 pattern from any recognized university and must have scored a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. 

Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing 

Interview-based 

  • Candidates must hold a Registered Nurse (RN and RM), GNM, BSc Nursing degree or an equivalent qualification. 

  • Preference will be given to nursing personnel working under the WBNS cadre. 

  • Service seniority will be considered when accepting and processing applications. 

  • In the event that eligible government candidates are not available, vacant positions will be filled by candidates outside the WBNS cadre who have a minimum of 1 years of job experience.

  • Eligible candidates need to download an application form from the official website of IOP, Kolkata- iopkolkata.ac.in. 

  • Duly filled application forms should be submitted to the Principal, College of Nursing, Institute of Psychiatry, CoE, 7, D. L. Khan Road, Kolkata700025 

  • Along with the application form, candidates need to attach self-attested copies of certificates, mark sheets and testimonials.

  • Candidates will be interviewed while submitting the application form. 

  • Shortlisted candidates are required to pay admission fees to secure their seat in the institute. 

Institute of Psychiatry, Kolkata Admission Process for M.Phil, MSc Course 

  • Eligible candidates need to fill an online application form of JEMAS (PG) conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. 
  • The authority issues admit cards for the successfully registered candidates. 

  • Candidates need to appear for a written examination conducted by the authority. 

  • The authority declares the result of the written examination in the form of a merit list. 

  • Qualified candidates will have to appear for a personal interview session conducted by WBUHS. 

  • Shortlisted candidates will have to attend document verification sessions. 

  • In the final stage, candidates need to complete the admission process at the allotted institute.

Treatment for mental illness varies with the type of mental disorder one has. But in most of the treatment, it involves psychiatric counseling. Sometimes it involves only psychiatric counseling and medications prescribed and no further treatment is required. The doctors who deal with the mental disorder patients are called as Psychiatrists.
