If CAT 2025 did not go as planned, CAT 2026 gives you another opportunity to improve your performance. However, preparing for a second attempt does not mean following the same routine again. You already know the exam format, have experience solving questions under time pressure, and understand some of the challenges that affected your previous score.

For CAT 2026 repeaters, the last 30 days should focus on correcting mistakes, improving accuracy, and revising important concepts. Instead of starting the entire syllabus again, identify the areas where you can improve your score in the available time.
Your second CAT attempt should build on your previous preparation rather than repeat it. Before making a new timetable, understand what went wrong in CAT 2025 and which changes can improve your performance this year.
Start by reviewing your previous mock tests and, if available, your CAT 2025 scorecard. Look beyond your overall percentile and examine your performance in VARC, DILR, and Quantitative Aptitude.
Identify the sections where you lost marks, the topics that took too much time, and the questions you answered incorrectly despite knowing the concepts. If you performed well in one section but struggled in another, allocate your preparation time accordingly.
Repeating the entire CAT syllabus in the final month can leave you with little time for practice. Instead, prioritise topics that you understand reasonably well but still make mistakes in, along with important concepts that need revision.
For example, if you understand arithmetic but struggle with time-consuming calculations, practise questions. If reading comprehension is your strength but verbal ability questions reduce your accuracy, devote more time to those question types.
A higher number of attempts does not automatically lead to a higher percentile. Incorrect answers can reduce your score, while spending too long on a difficult question can leave easier questions unanswered.
During mock tests, practise identifying questions you can solve confidently and those that are likely to consume too much time. Develop a clear CAT attempt strategy for each section and learn when to move on from a difficult question.
Divide your available study time between revision, practice, mock tests, and analysis. Avoid spending the entire day on one section simply because it feels difficult.
A balanced routine should include targeted concept revision, practice, and a review of previous mistakes. Adjust the schedule according to your mock performance instead of following a fixed timetable that does not address your actual weaknesses.
Maintain a record of your CAT mock scores, section-wise accuracy, attempts, and recurring errors. After every test, classify mistakes into conceptual gaps, calculation errors, incorrect question selection, and time-management issues.
Review this record before your next mock. The objective is not simply to take more tests but to ensure that the same mistakes do not keep affecting your score.
The final CAT 30 days should follow a clear progression: revise important concepts first, improve accuracy through practice, evaluate your exam strategy through mock tests, and reserve the final few days for revision.
Preparation Period | What to Do |
Days 30–21 | Review mock performance, revise important concepts, and practise weak topics. |
Days 20–14 | Take sectional tests, practise sets, and improve question selection. |
Days 13–7 | Take full-length mocks and analyse section-wise performance. |
Days 6–1 | Review formulas, reading strategies, previous mistakes, and exam-day plans. |
Revise important concepts and solve questions related to your weak areas. Focus on improving your understanding and accuracy rather than trying to cover every topic in the syllabus. Include sectional practice to check whether your revision is translating into better performance.
Analyse the questions you answered incorrectly and those you skipped despite having the ability to solve them. Work on reducing avoidable errors and improving your ability to select questions based on difficulty and time requirements.
After every mock, review your attempts, accuracy, and time spent on individual questions. Compare your recent performance with earlier tests to identify improvements and persistent weaknesses. Avoid changing your entire strategy because of one unusually good or poor score.
Reduce the intensity of your practice as the exam approaches, especially if you are feeling fatigued. Keep your sleep schedule consistent, check your exam-day requirements, and finalise your approach to question selection and time management.
CAT Section-wise preparation is important during the final month because each CAT section requires a different approach. Your plan should reflect your previous performance and the areas where focused practice can make the biggest difference.
For VARC, focus on reading comprehension, verbal ability, and understanding why an answer option is correct or incorrect.
Practise reading comprehension passages from different subjects and writing styles.
Analyse incorrect options to understand whether the problem was comprehension, inference, or interpretation.
Practise para jumbles, para summaries, and other verbal ability question types included in your preparation material.
Review your accuracy across different passage types.
Avoid spending too much time on a single confusing question.
If VARC was your weakest section in CAT 2025, focus on improving comprehension and option elimination rather than simply increasing the number of passages you attempt.
DILR requires logical reasoning, data interpretation, and the ability to select suitable sets under time pressure. In the final month, focus on solving sets accurately and recognising which ones are worth attempting.
Practise arrangements, tables, graphs, caselets, and other common DILR formats.
Solve sets with a timer to improve your speed and decision-making.
Review the sets you could not solve and identify where your approach went wrong.
Practise selecting manageable sets before committing too much time.
Avoid getting stuck on one difficult set at the expense of easier questions.
If you struggled with DILR in your previous attempt, prioritise set selection and systematic solving over trying to complete every set in a mock test.
For Quantitative Aptitude, revise important concepts and practise questions that match your current level. Focus on improving calculation accuracy and recognising the most efficient solving approach.
Revise arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and other relevant topics according to your preparation gaps.
Practise questions to improve calculation speed.
Maintain a formula sheet for quick revision.
Review incorrect answers to distinguish conceptual errors from calculation mistakes.
Learn to leave questions that require disproportionate time or unfamiliar methods.
If you already understand the concepts but struggle to finish the section, concentrate on practice and question selection instead of repeatedly studying the same theory.
There is no fixed number of mock tests that works for every repeater. The right number depends on your current preparation, available study time, and how effectively you analyse each test. A reasonable starting point is to take around two full-length mocks per week initially and increase to two or three per week if you can review them properly and still have time for revision.
Preparation Period | Suggested Mock Test Focus |
Days 30–21 | Around 2 full-length mocks per week, along with sectional tests |
Days 20–14 | Around 2–3 full-length mocks, depending on your schedule |
Days 13–7 | Around 2–3 full-length mocks, with detailed analysis |
Days 6–1 | Limited practice, selected sectional questions, and revision |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Start by analysing your previous performance and identifying the reasons behind your mistakes. Focus on weak areas, revise important concepts, take mock tests, and review your accuracy and time management.
CAT 2026 repeaters should focus on targeted revision, regular mock tests, question selection, and error analysis. Improving accuracy and avoiding time-consuming questions can help you use the available time more effectively.
Yes. Repeaters already have experience with the syllabus, exam format, and practice. CAT preparation after failure should focus on identifying previous mistakes, strengthening weak areas, and improving exam strategy.
Practise selecting questions according to difficulty, familiarity, and the time required to solve them. Take full-length mocks, analyse your section-wise performance, and avoid spending too long on difficult questions.
Prioritise topics you understand reasonably well, revise important concepts, and practise questions that you can solve accurately within the available time.

Hi Khushdeep
Several apps and online platforms are available for CAT (Common Admission Test) preparation. Students can choose a platform based on their preparation needs, such as video lectures, practice questions, mock tests, and performance analysis.
