Course Overview

The ‘Introductory Neuroscience & Neuro-Instrumentation’ online course is a design-based program offered in the Swayam portal which is an initiative by the ministry of education in India. This faculty development program approved by the AICTE is developed and provided by the National Program for Technology Enhanced Learning in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science(IISC) in Bangalore. The course study is focused on the design aspects and implementations of neuroscience in our day-to-day lives.

The program is conducted for a period of twelve weeks by the course instructor from the center for Bio-systems science and engineering in IISC, Dr. Mahesh Jayachandra is the facility technology manager in neurophysiology. This is an elective course and developed as a part of the electrical, electronics, and communication engineering domain.

The students of the ‘Introductory Neuroscience & Neuro-Instrumentation’ training program will gain three credit points and receive a course certificate that contains the NPTEL and IISC logo making it E-Verifiable.

Eligibility Criteria

The Swayam course certificate is issued to the students who have scored a minimum of 25% which is an average of 10/25 IN 8 out of 12 assignments and the final exam score ough to be 75% which would be 30/75 to become eligible for course certification.’

Basics of EEG and Event-Related Potentials(ERPs)
Fundamentals of Brain-Computer Interface(BCI) and its applications.
Implementation of ERPs to diagnose the cognitive disorders
Overview of the ERP stimulators and signal conditioning circuits
Description of EEG lab and ERP lab for signal processing.

Evaluation process

The students are required to take the final certification exam and clear the exam with minimum marks of 30/75 which would be 75%. The exam registration for the certification is done separately on the website and the students should write the exams in one of the designated centers provided for them.
