IIT Kharagpur is the mother of IITs. It is a 2100 acre campus with bus facility available for both professors and students. The main features of IIT KGP are TSG (Technology Students Gymkhana and student activity centre ),socities,Halls of residence , KTJ (Techno management fest) all these help to develop yourself as a good individual as well as good engineer 1. Technology Students' Gymkhana is the hub of the numerous extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in IIT Kharagpur ranging from sports to socio-cultural. There are courts and play grounds with for almost all the major sports and games. Inter hall competetions inculcate competetive spirit among the students. 2. KGP has diversified socities and clubs including Team kart (they make formula style sports cars ),K.R.S.S.G(Kharagpur Robo Soccer Students Group ) these guys usually participate in international level competions. Entrepreneurship Cell and B Club to help the budding entrepreneur in you. we have various cultural socities for filmmaking ,photography ,music ,dance. In addition to the above mentioned ones there are various other socities in the fields of technology, arts and literature. 3. KGP has its own culture and way of celebrating festivals ( google illuminati and rangoli iit kgp for more info) 4. There are interhall competetions for sports & games, social & cultural, Technology in which seniors educate (teach ) the juniors who are confused and ignorant aout where to start learning (This is mostly helpful for students who want to pursue interdisciplinary careers )

A stark contrast to the (relative) morbidity of JEE

IIT KGP boasts an extensive campus with enough space for each of the ten thousand something people who call it their own. With such a large population, it's hard to consider it as just another college; IIT KGP is more like a (nearly) self-sufficient village. However, numbers do not mean everything, because the vast majority of the community is male, straight, and speaks Hindi as their preferred language. The last characteristic is shared by most of the office staff as well, which makes bureaucratic interactions even more difficult than it needs to be. Entrepreneurship is given priority over research. The lab classes are not primarily purposed to cultivate scientific curiosity in students; this makes it difficult for people who intend to do industrial work and/or higher studies to follow their passion. However, if you want to be an entrepreneur, you have come to the right place. The huge network of alumni will definitely help you in your endeavors. Students enjoy their fundamental right to privacy and freedom of movement. There is no late night curfew (except for girls, the details of which I do not know about), and the moral policing exists barely. Hostels (called Halls within IIT KGP) are, at best, representative of the people who live in them, and not of the college itself. There are methods for addressing Hall-related complaints and grievances, and their resolution is satisfactory, but not commendable. Freshers are not bullied or picked on in the least. However, it is not the case for sophomores, as senior students tend to coax, guilt, threaten or blackmail them into doing activities for several Inter-Hall events and "prove their loyalty" to the respective Halls. The good news is that this happens only in a select few Halls, and the punishments are severe to those students against whom ragging is reported. Professors are, as in any institution, diverse in their skills. Some may be better at research, and some at teaching. One thing that the college could improve on, is in providing a better platform to ensure that the professors listen to the feedback given by the students. Finally, in terms of financial affordability, fees are at par with other IITs. A point of interest about life within the campus is that, the ratio of the cost of living to the standard of living is surprisingly low.

infrastructure is one of the best in the country. state of the art lab facilities... advanced equipment... wind tunnels etc... AC classrooms... huge central library... there should be more opportunities and more importantly more guidances sessions by faculty/professional regarding application for internship programs etc. the faculty is as poor as any ordinary college... they are least interested in teaching and not even supportive/friendly... sanitary condition of the student accommodation and food is very poor the location or Kharagpur may not be a very pleasant experience for someone accustomed to city life however the IIT campus itself has a lot to offer...
