The top rankers are allotted seats in in category 1 the fee structure of which is the lowest in VIT. The better you for home in the examination lower is the category and lower would be the few would have to pay. Now coming to the main part of your question the examination would be held in online Computer based mode but at designated centres across various cities. That means you cannot appear for the entrance examination from your home.

Both the college mentioned by you are the leading top private Engineering colleges in India. In my opinion and analysing the statistics of both the College Vellore Institute of Technology is far ahead of RV College of Engineering. Vellore Institute of Technology was established in year 1983 and is spread over 400 acres. It has an amazing infrastructure with all the world class facilities including library, labs and seminar halls. In the recent times it has set amazing records for placement with the average being around 7.5 lacs for the year 2021-22. Average package for Computer Science and Engineering is around 8 lakhs. RV College of Engineering has similar placement statistics but you would not get that sort of infrastructure and environment that helps an individual to grow as a whole. The only condition I would suggest you to choose are we College of Engineering over VIT is when you do not get a seat in VIT under category 3. This is because the fee structure for category 4 and category 5 students is very high and you would not get that's sort of return of investment.

Answer to this question is NO . Hostel is not compulsory for students in VIT.Students are allowed to stay outside the college premises in PG or at rent.There are lot of good accommodation facilities are available outside the campus.But generally students opt hostel for first year as they are new to the place .It totally depends on you .

For VITEEE you can always provide the preference list for the exam cities, but you can't select the exam center. The organizer will provide you a designated exam center in your 1st preferred city (if not available then they will provide you exam center in your subsequent preferred cities) which will be mentioned in the ADMIT CARD of the examination.
