IGIPESS Delhi Admission Process

Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) in New Delhi is a premier institution of the University of Delhi, specializing in the field of physical education and sports sciences. Generally, IGIPESS starts the admission process for the upcoming academic year from August-September. The Institute conducts admission through various national-level examinations depending on the program. For undergraduate programs, CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate) will also be considered, while other criteria differ for postgraduate admissions.

Admission processes at IGIPESS are multi-dimensional, including written tests, an assessment of physical fitness, and proficiency in sports. The candidates must have completed their 10+2 from a renowned board in terms of undergraduate admissions. Though there are percentage differentiations based on programs, they are most likely expected to be well-academically qualified, apart from their sporty achievements.

Application Process

Different application procedures follow for each program at IGIPESS:

For B.Sc (PEHE&S) and other undergraduate programs:

  1. Register and appear in CUET UG examination.
  2. Keep checking the IGIPESS website (www.igipess.du.ac.in) for updates on the admission process.
  3. Apply through the University of Delhi's undergraduate admission portal.
  4. Undertake every trial prescribed by the institute, which might include a written test, physical fitness test, and sports proficiency evaluation.
  5. All documents related to sports or certificates must be original and self-attested photocopies attached with the application form.

For B.P.Ed and M.P.Ed programs:

  1. Apply through the concerned admission portal (which most probably would be the University of Delhi's portal).
  2. Attend the entrance examination, fitness test, and interview according to the schedule.
  3. Present all necessary documents regarding academics and sports achievements.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Sc in Physical Education, Health Education and Sports (PEHE&S): The three-part process for this undergraduate admission program is:

  1. Written Test: Checking the suitability of knowledge of the relevant subjects associated with the candidates.
  2. Physical Fitness Test: Assesses the physical capabilities of the applicants.
  3. Sports Proficiency Marks: Assured based on achievement and skill in sports.

Candidates are obliged to take part in all the stages of the admission process. The syllabi for the entrance tests have been released on the University Admission Portal as well as through the college website. Sports Proficiency Weightage has been conferred based on the highest value certificate produced by the candidate.

B.P.Ed (Bachelor of Physical Education): The basis for admission is via:

  1. Entrance examination i.e. a written test
  2. Fitness test
  3. Interview
  4. Percentage in qualifying examination

The selection follows the process of the state government and the attached university.

M.P.Ed (Master of Physical Education): Similar to the aforementioned admission process of B.P.Ed, the following admission steps apply:

  1. Entrance examination (written test)
  2. Fitness test
  3. Interview
  4. Percentage in the qualifying exam

Ph.D in Physical Education: Though specifications are not mentioned, Ph.D admissions are likely similar to very rigorous ones, with research proposals, interviews, etc. probably included in the selection process.

Postgraduate Diploma Courses: IGIPESS is offering self-financed postgraduate diplomas in Sports Sciences and Sports Coaching as well. The admission process might include a mixture of academic merit and sports achievement.
