Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry admissions are essentially nation-level entrance-based. For undergraduate courses such as MBBS, admissions are made on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Admissions in postgraduate courses of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry, such as MD and MS are on the basis of scores in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET-PG).
The minimum eligibility requirement for the MBBS course is passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. The candidates should pass the NEET-UG exam to be eligible for admission. For postgraduate courses, the candidates should have passed their MBBS degree from a recognised institution and passed the NEET-PG exam.

Entry to the MBBS course offered by SMVMCH is provided on the basis of the student's performance at the NEET-UG entrance exam. 250 seats of this flagship programme have been granted approval by the college. It is necessary that the candidates passed 10+2 with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as compulsory subjects and passed the NEET-UG exam to receive admission.
SMVMCH provides a variety of postgraduate courses, such as MD and MS courses in different specialties. Admissions to these courses are done on the basis of NEET-PG exam scores. The college provides MD courses in specialties like, MD Anaesthesiology, MD General Medicine, MD Paediatrics, MD Pathology, MD Radiology, MD Anatomy, MD Dermatology, MD Forensic Medicine, MD Pharmacology, MD Physiology, MD Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, MD Psychiatry, MD Biochemistry, MD Community Medicine, and MD Microbiology. MS courses are provided, such as, MS General Surgery, MS Orthopaedics, MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MS Ophthalmology, and MS ENT.
The intake capacity is different for various postgraduate courses, ranging from 2 to 12 seats for each specialty. For example, MD Anaesthesiology has 12 seats, MD General Medicine has 10 seats, and MS General Surgery has 9 seats. The candidates are required to complete their MBBS degree from a recognised university and pass the NEET-PG exam to be considered for these postgraduate courses.
