Fisheries Science is a multidisciplinary course that teaches about the discipline of managing and understanding fisheries. The course, fisheries science teaches the different disciplines of aquaculture like breeding, genetics, biotechnology, nutrition. It also teaches about fish processing which includes curing, canning, freezing, and by-products, among others. A person studying Fisheries resource management is also taught biology, anatomy, taxonomy, physiology along with a fisheries environment which includes oceanography, limnology, ecology, biodiversity.
Fisheries science teaches technology that includes navigation and seamanship, gear and craft engineering, marine engines. Fisheries economics and management and fisheries science extension. The fisheries science course offers students with Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD degrees.
Different colleges have their eligibility criteria for the UG, PG, and PhD courses, however, the general requirements will be the following –
For Undergraduate Course –
Students should have a 10+2 degree with the main subjects being Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Students should not have any backlogs.
For Postgraduate Course –
Students should have cleared graduation with 50-60% marks.

For Undergraduate Course –
LPU-NEST (Lovely Professional University National Eligibility and Scholarship Test) is an online exam conducted in two fold- first for the entrance test and second for a scholarship. It is a university-level exam.
JEE Main - Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted by NTA to offer admission to UG courses at IITs, NITs and IIITs. It is a national exam conducted twice a year. It makes students eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.
For Postgraduate Course in Fisheries Science
ICAR AIEEA- ICAR has been entrusted the responsibility of conducting All India Entrance Examination for Admission to UG, PG, and PhD. Courses. The student should be minimum 16 years old, have had a 10+2 degree with 3 subjects out of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It is a national level exam. This exam consists of subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It is a 2.5 hours long exam which is conducted online during June.
AUCET – Andhra University Common Entrance Test- It is a state-level exam. It is 1.5 hours long conducted offline once in a year. It makes students eligible for admission in PG sources. The students appearing for this examination should have a minimum of 50% of aggregate marks.
GPAT – Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test- It is a national level exam. It makes students eligible for admission in PG sources. The students appearing for this examination should have a minimum of 50% of aggregate marks. It is an online exam for 3 hours.
The students, after completing a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries science, they have various options for future study. They can go for a master’s degree or start a job as a biochemist, research assistant, technicians or biologist, among many others.
The Bachelor’s degree offers them jobs at numerous institutions such as MPEDA, FSI, NIO, WHO. Candidates can also find opportunities in institutions, banks, fishing/oceans and foreign countries.
