First of all, I would like to clarify that both the ranks have their own different meanings. General rank denotes that at what position you are in all the candidates irrespective of the cast while category rank means the rank you got in all the students belonging to that particular category who gave the exam.

Now, that you understand how this works. If you have registered as a particular category student than the rank which you secured in that category is more important in the counselling otherwise your general rank is considered only.

The TANCET cutoff for University Departments of Anna University for SC category students is somewhere near 51. So it would be a little difficult for you to get into the college. But you can definitely look out for other colleges you can get with your rank like

• Easwari Engineering college 
• RMK Engineering college 
• Sona School of Management 
• PSG Institute of Management 
• Galaxy Institute of Management and other private colleges.

They are having the same scope. Because they merged long time back. .   EEE must learn and implement programming in all the 4 years. The same way the CSE must learn to implement Electrical and Electronics all the 4 years. Today 90% of electronic products call for programming. The IoT segment need lots of high end programmers. 

      Programming is a skill, which is most required by industry. If you take CSE you will be doing programming entire 4 years. In EEE  there can be few exceptional programmers. Exceptions can not be examples. Most of the EEE students do not know programming. They do not even know that programming skill is the most essential for their success in core industry.  So I think CSE is having a good scope after 4 years.

Anna University has started the registration process for admissions through TNEA for other state students. The final date for registration is July 7, 2018.  Candidates who meet the specified eligibility criteria must fill the application form, pay the fee, upload their photograph, signature and other documents. TNEA for other state students 2018 will have allotment against the region wise seats offered by Anna University in its constituent colleges only.  A merit list of TNEA for other state students will be published and allotment will be made on the basis of these ranks.
