72 MonthsDoctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering is six years program offered at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
Ph.D. program shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.
Eligibility Criteria
All candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program under the categories mentioned below shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in the qualifying degree as shown below:
- Minimum 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (3.2.a and/or 3.2.b) in Engineering /Science /Commerce /Management/ Law and/or equivalent. OR,
- M inimum 55% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (3.2.a and/or 3.2.b) in Humanities/Social Science/MBBS degree and/or equivalent

The admission of a candidate to the Ph.D. program is recommended by the Departmental Academic Committee (Post‐Graduate and Research), abbreviated as DAC (PG&R), of the Department/Centre concerned on the basis of‐

College Infrastructure
IIT KGP has great infrastructure with all facilities; my department has AC classrooms with modern projectors to teach. Wi-Fi is available on the whole campus, and at the same time, library facilities are also good. We have a central library that has all the useful books. Free bus and medical services are provided inside the campus. The hostel provides all required facilities, including sports, proper electricity supply, furniture, etc.
Overall experience is good.

College Infrastructure
There are currently 22 halls on the premises, with an additional 2 halls set to be officially opened on the 20th of 2024 by the prime minister. The campus is equipped with a wide range of amenities including sports facilities, a library, Wi-Fi, dining options, laboratories, auditoriums, a 24-hour hospital, and more. All necessary requirements are met within the campus.
