there is a 50-50  probability of your son to get selested as per the previous record of the cutoff. the cut off basically fluctuates year by year but there is more probablity of getting selescted as last year the cut off for mechanical in IIT Roorkee was:- Gen -72.47, OBC - 65.27, SC - 48.72, ST - 48.82, PD - 54.14
cut off for 2016 was :- Gen - 65.13 , OBC -58.86, SC - 43.83, ST - 43.83 
cut off for 2015 was :- Gen - 70.88, OBC - 63.84, SC -47.63, ST - 47.78

With this score, you have a good chance of getting into IIT Roorkee. The last year cutoff for Civil engineering was 37.06 marks. The cutoff varies every year according to the top score. Also, refer the rank and college preditor by careers360. It will be very helpful to obtain the details.

JEE Advanced maximum marks are not defined :

Maximum Marks vary every year like below:

2017- 366

2016- 372

2015 - 504

2014 - 360

So, it is difficult to predict marks as exam pattern and marks change every year but you should score more than 45% marks to get good branch in Top IITs.

As IIT Roorkee is considered to be the one of best institutes in India for civil engineering branch so both of the branch are good enough in this institute.
